"Vili the Warrior" battles EA in court
University of Hawaii mascot sues game company over his depiction in NCAA Football '06.
You don't want to get Vili the Warrior mad, especially by using his image in a game without his permission. Unfortunately for Electronic Arts, Vili is hotter than Mauna Loa and claims that the team behind NCAA Football '06 did just that, prompting the University of Hawaii mascot to file a lawsuit, reported TheHawaiiChannel.com. Viliami Fehoko, the man behind the menacing war paint of Vili the Warrior, says that EA never obtained his permission nor paid him compensation for the use of his Vili character as a featured mascot in NCAA Football '06. According to the article, Fehoko has claimed $75,000 in damages. The game was released for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 in July and was the top-selling game for the month.
