Valve has released the mechanical CAD geometry of its Steam Controller. This allows you to create and customize the controller any you like, then have it made with a 3D printer.

The Half-Life developer shared the first alternate designs on its website. They feature two new battery doors that can hold your Steam Controller's wireless USB receiver when you're not using it. The company notes that you "may need to revise the geometry" to get it to work with your 3D printer. You can take a look at the alternate designs and geometry in the images below. There haven't been any notable revisions made yet, though a thread on Reddit has been throwing ideas around. Some users are calling for a design with a D-pad, while Reddit user Boxsterguy suggested that modders could create new shells out of high-end materials.

Valve says you can "create and share to your heart's content," but if you're looking to make some money and sell your creations, you'll need to talk to them first.

In related news, the Steam Controller received an update that added the ability to create multiple configurations and then switch between them automatically.
