'Upcoming Halo' listed at UK retailer

[UPDATE] Tesco product page suggests Microsoft making new Halo for Xbox 360 this year; company says listing "not indicative of a Halo product launch."

[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, a Microsoft representative told GameSpot that the Tesco product listing is "not indicative of a Halo product launch."

"This listing is not indicative of a Halo product launch," the representative said. "We have no news to share of future Halo titles."

The original story follows below

Not only has United Kingdom retailer Tesco revealed Call of Duty: Ghosts today, but the shop has outed (via Videogamer) a product currently listed as "Upcoming Halo."

The listing includes generic Xbox 360 box art and a 2013 release date. A Microsoft representative was not immediately available to comment.

Microsoft has previously confirmed Halo 5 and Halo 6, as part of the Reclaimer Trilogy. The most recent entry in the science-fiction shooter series was November's Halo 4.

A new Halo game has come to market every year since 2009, those being Halo 3: ODST (2009), Halo: Reach (2010), Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (2011), and Halo 4 (2012).

Microsoft is openly hiring for the future of the Halo brand, which may include games for the company's rumored next-generation platform, believed to be announced next month. The Halo team is seeking, among other developers, a person with MMO experience.

Don't do it. Don't follow Activision's pattern.

How about an Arbiter based game for what's goin on while Chief's gone? But Halo 2 remake with maps for Halo 4 would be greatly appreciated too

So glad there is going to be a Halo 5 and 6, this is a series that does not disappoint with squeals, it just gets better.

Halo 2 Anniversary? This is the only installment not in HD. Halo 5 won't be ready so soon.

HALO now stooped to COD with yearly gimmick releases.

you people are aware Microsoft is launching the new Xbox in 27 days right? This is simple solution. Its just a new version of Halo4 for the Xbox 720 (or whatever they're going to call it.) :)

After all it would be illogical to launch the new Xbox without some form of Halo game. Halo is the Xbox brand, Xbox is the Halo brand. They're inseparable. Although I'm not going to stop riding the "I want Halo for PC" soapbox based on principle and the MMO side of the hiring list is definitely a PC genre move :)

Another Halo? What a wild stab in the dark. The odds must be a million to one, because no way they'd release yet another iteration this year too. >.>;

We had enough with Halo for Xbox 360. We need a new IP that is not a shooter. We had Halo 3, ODST, Reach, Anniversary and 4 for Xbox 360. We really need something new. At least this one is something else.

It would be great if MS release Halo Wars 2 next year and halo 5 that other other year, this way the new halo triology games would be just a little far apart

It makes no sense that Halo 2 would be left a standard-def game when all the other titles of the series are now HD.  A high-def Halo 2 would complete the circle, and would be certain to sell well at modest developer expense.

They need to save Halo 5 for the next X-Box if Microsoft expects the system to sell.

Halo 5 should be out in 2014. Hopefully it will be Halo 2 anniversary but 343 stated that it wasn't in their plans.

I wish MS could use some of the honorable, experts engineers and marketers on this site to develop and market their console. Know it all couch potatoes...

If this is true, this HAS to be either Halo 2 Anniversary or Halo 4: ODST. It's WAY too soon for Halo 5.

Definitely could be Halo 2 Anniversary, which is exactly what I want.

343 has denied working on H2A but H4 could use a legacy map pack

If it was anniversary edition for Halo 2 I'd preorder it and I know I'm not alone

DarkReign2552

I would say a Halo 2 Anniversary release, but that wouldn't be due until 2014, so we're still over a year away from this game being a reality if it does happen. As for this year, I seriously doubt we're going to be getting another Halo game. I would love to see them wrap up the Halo Wars storyline, but I suspect that might just be tied into the main franchise instead.

I love Halo 4. Didn't care much for Multiplayer on Halo 4. But I love a Halo 2 Anniversary. It would be awesome as hell.

Ultra_Taco

A Halo 2 remake with its original multiplayer would be nice. It would be much better than Halo 4.

I wish it would be a halo 2 remake on halo 4s engine and had a multiplayer with all halo 2 maps, because as much as I want to like hlao 4 it is just nothing when compared to halo 2 and 3

I dunno about this, but 343 has already said the next Halo will come sooner than later, so no real surprise.

This may actually have to do with Halo 2 Anniversary. We know they're working on that.

It's sure to be Halo 5 oh, and they'll be a Gears of War 4 and Forza 5 as well, instead of the innovative new franchises that the next Xbox needs...

Hopefully it won't be completely like this at the reveal...

I'd love a Halo 2 Anniversary. Then I'll have all the main Halo games on one console.

@mr_azim Well, in the update MS told Gamespot the listing isn't anything about a launch, so I guess it's some bs on Tresco's side for some odd marketing tactic. As for those things previous, they weren't real Halo games, as all of them were spinoffs (and a remake on the case of CE) and the only one that could be remotely considered real is Reach since it follows to the main storyline more closely, while all those other games were backstory. So, if you only count 1, 2, 3, Reach, and 4, they should all be pretty equally spread apart. Whereas with COD, pretty much every game released is considered a main COD game, simply because 0 people give a damn about the story and only play it for it's multiplayer, which it's story in truth is pretty bad altogether anyways, so it's pretty much understandable.

@azariah001 Can you read?  "Listing includes a generic Xbox360 pic"...... it won't even be a next gen release.

@JRLennis you right on the money its Halo 2 HD then halo 5 next year on the Xbox3

@Malckeor no too soon i think , activision release cod every year . if M$ release halo 5 , it will come in  2014

spike6958

@Malckeor That and they'd have to be stupid to launch Halo 5 on the 360 so close to the launch of there next system. That's about the only exclusive series they have that stands a chance of moving systems these days.

Rivboets7

Nearly 2008 which would've made a new Halo game every year since Halo 3.

@robertcain Creating new IPs doesn't mean getting rid of or replacing existing ones.

We know MS is working on a bunch of new IPs for the next Xbox, I can list several of them for you, if you like

azariah001
azariah001

@i_like_pie223 @azariah001 you have a point with the Reveal/Launch difference but if the Xbox is ready for a reveal... Then Microsoft won't be far away from a launch. And personally Sony's move to announce the PS4 and then not launch for 6 months was a mistake. These events are hype builders if you build hype and then don't release a product the public loose interest. And Microsoft knows this. :) if your going to hold one of these events you need to put your product on the market within a month.

Funnily only the mobile handset manufacturers seem to really get this. :) but that's a reflection of the era we live in.

azariah001
azariah001

They aren't going to say that its for the new console with X name at this stage are they? That'd be stupid. :) there'd be no point in the official Xbox announcement and as others have said it's to soon for another release especially for a new Games sub-company that's still getting on its feet.

The "new Xbox" (please Microsoft don't pull an Apple and use that name. :| ) makes a lot more sense especially as on the same day you have a New Generation of Xbox announcement. :) just saying.

Is using my brain illegal? Just makes sense to me. If that sounds weird to you so be it. :) but you can't launch a New Xbox Generation without an accompanying Halo game. And if a games store just happened to put a placeholder in their website then it'd make sense to put details in there that wouldn't reveal the true nature of the release product. Especially as all they probably know is 3 key words. New, Xbox, & Halo MS isn't gonna tell a reseller much more than that until an official device launch. :) Kinda ruins the surprise. :P

@TheSkyrimStatue @07jonesj Doesn't have achievements though.

And yes, I do believe this is what the article is actually referring to because 343 has said they are working on it.

DarkReign2552
DarkReign2552

@TrueGB @TheSkyrimStatue @07jonesj 343 never said they were actually working on H2A. Actually, quite the opposite. They stated around September last year that Halo 2 Anniversary wasn't in development and that they were busy on developing Halo 4 only.

That said, they never denied the possibility of H2A. Simply that it wasn't their current focus. Now they have 3 years until Halo 5's launch and with the return of Team Saber and Certain Affinity they could easily handle a Halo 2 revamp and the standard Halo 5 development effort.
