Unreal for PS Officially Canned

Infogrames puts the Unreal for the PlayStation rumors to bed.

Comments

GameSpot has learned that Infogrames has officially cancelled the development of Unreal Tournament for the Sony PlayStation. As announced earlier, the game will now be released only for the PlayStation 2. According to Infogrames, the decision was made on the fact that the Unreal engine and technology was better suited for the PS2.

Although the game was never officially canned, until now, the showing of Unreal Tournament on the PS2, and the no-show for the PlayStation version, at this year's E3 essentially sealed it chances of appearing on the original PlayStation. However, there was some doubt as GT Interactive showed Unreal for PS in a heavy R&D-state to the Official UK PlayStation magazine earlier this year. The company went as far as to put the product under evaluation for release on the PlayStation.

Now the game can be removed from any rumored PlayStation release lists as gamers look forward to Unreal Tournament from Epic Mega Games for Sony's upcoming console.
