Ultima Online accounts are suddenly a hot eBay commodity. You can play this game too, but it's going to cost you.

The online auctioning service eBay seemed to provide a viable way of dealing with an interesting problem that has cropped up among Ultima Online players: What do you do with your character when you don't want it any more?

Well, you auction it. Last week one UO character sold for US$521. Wednesday, GameSpot News learned of a two-year-old UO account - featuring three owned houses, a castle, a keep deed, 100 unique items, and 500,000 gold pieces - that is currently for sale to the highest bidder. As of noon CST on Wednesday, the offering had a bid of US$1,500 pending. And there are still three days left for the auction.

Currently, there are also about a dozen other UO accounts being auctioned, typically for a few hundred dollars.

"It's certainly a reflection of the passion that people have for this game," said David Swofford, Origin's Director of Communications. "It's extremely interesting to watch and we're pretty amazed by it all."
