UK PS4 owners will get Sky Go and Now TV apps from this summer

Now TV arriving in summer, Sky Go coming later this year. But will it also come out for Xbox One?

Look it's the chap from the Now TV advert! Throw that £9.99 box out the window and get a PS4!

UK broadcaster Sky has announced it will be bringing Now TV and Sky Go apps to the PlayStation 4.

Now TV will be available from summer, thanks to a new agreement between Sky and Sony Computer Entertainment UK. Now TV is a contract-free streaming service that allows pay-as-you-go access to Sky Movies, Sky Sports, and some of the shows on Sky One and Sky Atlantic. Now TV has been available on PS3 since last year.

Sky Go, on the other hand, allows active Sky subscribers a chance to watch additional content on demand. The app, formerly known as Sky Player, will be a first for a Sony platform. It was released for Xbox 360, but has never been announced on Xbox One.

Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Fergal Gara was, as you might expect, delighted. "Now TV has been a great addition to the PlayStation 3 entertainment portfolio," he said in a statement, "so bringing it to the new PS4 is going to delight all users of the newest, most powerful member of the PlayStation family."

"Sky Go joining both PlayStation platforms further enhances our credentials as the ultimate gaming and entertainment package," Gara, who never misses an opportunity, added.

Last night got 30 day free trial of Nowtv., downloaded app to both my ps4 and xbox1 and started watching django on ps4. Decided to resume watching rest of it tonight and the app won't load. Deleted app and tried to reinstall but nothing happens, just hangs. Decided to watch rest of film on xbox1.
 True story by the way.

i like how nobody understands that this is a streaming service, this is not tv service. difference being you choose what to watch, it may not have everything you want to watch and you can't watch anything live.

So much for Microsoft's focus on TV. They can't even secure all the good TV services outside of the US

LOL

These apps will be good for those who want them, I suppose, but my family probably wouldn't use them.  Even though we have Sky Broadband, we don't subscribe to Sky TV because we just don't watch much TV. :/

Microsoft will get thiss on Xbox one soon don't worry. They had it on 360 so they will have it on Xbox one soon.

i'm not a fanboy, so keep it in your pants xbots, but Sky Go is the nuts, and it's basically the best online streaming/vod platform anywhere on the planet. unless XB1 gets this app too, then it really is a massive kick in the teeth for MS in the UK, who wanted their console to be synonymous with TV media. they've been totally had on this one....

Or just don't be a cheap arse and get sky with muti room and jobs done.

Bloody hell.

I'd have actually thought this would have been exclusive to Microsoft if anyone given the whole TV focus :/

Yet again proves my point; outside of the US the Xbox One doesn't really have a market. They've focused far too much on America and shot themselves in the foot.

Great news for Playstation gamers in the UK though, awesome news.

Looks like microsoft lost its TV business too.

Great news. They just need to allow more than 2 devices on the service for free. Charging £5 a month for 5 devices is a rip off. Sky should be able to offer this for nothing seeing as their products are expensive to begin with.

Good move though by Sony.

Couldn't careless if Sony wants to add a little T.V here and there, just as long as they have the gamers on there side, outnumbered MS, and that's all that matters in the end.

@blackace  no it dosnt you fool, its a tv player you stream the programs you want to watch. its not a tv you dont need a tv license to watch shows off it.

Sky go is good on your phone or at work but whats the point if your at home?muti room is only £10 a month so far better option than sky go.

@Lyca  Yeah, that day pass on NowTV is a crazy price. I would only pay it if I was having, like, a sports party or something.

I'm presuming your account is a joke given the name... Quite an accurate representation of a fanboy - congratulations! :P

@EasyComeEasyGo

how do you know that Sony has gamers on their side? Is it because the PS4 has a 2-3 million units lead over Xbox One? Well if that's the case the Wii must've had all the gamers on it's side cause the Wii had a 20 million units lead over the PS3

kovaras1984

@neowarrior121 @blackacein the U.K you need a T.V lenience to watch streamed  T.V actually... esp if its a live stream like so many services offer

@xbots

It's also great for tablets, so you can watch it in bed or at another person's house.

So how does multiroom work? You need ANOTHER massive box in your room? And do you need the cable fed into that room somehow? An engineer call out? Another remote control? And it cost £11.25 per month? Feels pretty shitty to me, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, the whole thing is redundant unless you live with your parents.

@martingaston @Lyca

and if you're into F1 and wanna watch the practice, qualy and race then it's 3 days!! for one event. now that is way too much. they should have event passes.

@sladakrobot @Vinnvn  Sony is copying again? First of all it's called competition, if it wasn't for Sony, Microsoft wouldn't be handing out free game(s) every month.

EasyComeEasyGo
EasyComeEasyGo

Simple MS has the games, Sony has the gamers. Which is more important, Games or the Gamers?

@xbots

okay, the box is smaller than the normal box, but it's still another box. and it's not tiny. and i think you can only change channel using the app if you're a SKY broadband customer, but i could be wrong on that...

i think my points are all very valid for a non-partisan, non-fanboy customer.

don't know why you're getting all defensive ab.... oh, wait. yes i do. i get it now.

That's true good point.

xbots

I have sky in 3 rooms in my house and it's fine with me don't see what the big deal is.the new sky boxs are very small not massive(keep up with the times) can can use your phone or tablet to change channel so you don't need another remote(keep up with the times) the engineer is free so what the big deal?

So you didn't real make a god point.

Or u can use a magic eye which costs about £20
