UK DS sales hit 4 million

Latest Chart Track figures also show that Nintendo's handheld has sold 1 million units so far in 2007.

Nintendo today released figures showing that the combined sales of the original Nintendo DS and the revamped Nintendo DS Lite have sold more than 4 million units in the UK.

The figures come from official UK sales body Chart Track and also show that Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? has cracked the 1 million domestic sales mark.

Including More Brain Training from Dr. Kawashima, the total for Nintendo's two brain training titles has reached 1.5 million units in the UK.

Nintendo UK's general manager, David Yarnton, commented on the figures at an event in London today by saying that the company was realizing its aims of expanding the gaming audience. He said, "Brain Training is now Nintendo's top-selling game in the whole history of the company. That means that more than one in four people who own a DS in the UK have played Brain Training."

He also added that in the UK, the game has remained in the top 10 UK all-formats chart since its release back in June 2006.

Ah, the DS: the gaming system so fun and easy to use and understand that even your non-gaming relatives and that retired couple you met at the diner have one. I love my DS! Games are much cheaper than the $60 ones for the next-gen consoles like the 360, and for me at least, they're at least as much fun if not moreso, and if that weren't enough, the DS is backwards compatible with the GBA to boot! I enjoy being able to walk around with not one, but TWO handheld games ready to play at any time. Currently, I've got Touch Detective 2 1/2 and Legend of Zelda: the Minish Cap in mine.

Yeah I can understand that. Me and my wife have a DS Lite each, I also bought the original. My brother and sister have one each and every kid at the school I work at seems to have one! Go DS. Playing Phantom Hourglass now. Awesome game!

Wow..............I reckon PSP's not selling as well because it's being dwarfed by 360 and PS3 at the moment.

nintendo showing there dominance once again. its good to see the gaming industry being ruled by the real gaming system. nintendo has always cared about games over dvd players, mp3s and so on. the wii has not even been out a year and already over the 13mil mark. it goes to show that its not about power. its about how you go about the market, nintendo paced it perfectly, and there sales will only be going up, good stuff for nintendo :):) SSBB is gonna pwn! simple as

I'm still just amazed that Nintendo, a company only selling poducts in the area of computer games, is worth more than sony, who sells games, camera, tvs, mp3 players etc etc. Brilliant.

If they hadn't released the Lite, I wouldn't have bought one. They did a good thing releasing a non-carpal tunnel inducing version of the hardware.

When he means best selling game in the history of the company, hes referring not to the amount of copies sold, but the ratio of people who have a DS and a copy of the game. No other game not included with the console has 1 in 4 people playing it in their company. Hope that helps anyone who doesn't get it :)

Cool, I'm very happy that Nintendo is seeing so much success with the DS, because it really is a platform worthy of all the attention and praise. I love my DS, this year was a little slow on the software side, but next year has a TON of games that I want for the DS.

waytoomuch , "Brain Training is now Nintendo's top selling game in the whole history of the company. thought that was super mario bros 3( with 18 mil sold), or is he talking about ds games ? or maybe in UK

I own a standard DS and have considered time and time again whether to get the Lite. So far i haven't found enough reason to, simply because of the way Nintendo platforms developers have their focus. The majority of DS/Wii games are either made for children or are watered down versions of the same game that's on other platforms. I'm not being fanboyish or whatever but nintendo's systems really aren't for me right now.

I think he meant in relationship to the UK alone wayttomuch.

waytoomuch, I think he's just talking about it being the top selling Nintendo game in the UK. And the original Super Mario Bros sold over 40 million copies worldwide.
