Ubisoft PS4 game sales were more than double that of Xbox One, which accounted for 12 percent, compared to 15 percent during the same period last year. The second most popular platform for Ubisoft games during the period was the PC, which made up for 20 percent of sales, up from 15 percent.

The chart also reveals that Ubisoft game sales on Wii outperformed the Wii U by one percentage point.

As for earnings highlights specifically, below is roundup of the key points

  • Revenue was €207.3 million, which was above Ubisoft's target.
  • Ubisoft recorded a loss of €65.7 million for the period, compared to a profit of €17.5 million last year.
  • Back catalog sales jumped by 53.1 percent to €184.3 million.
  • Revenue from digital platforms was €100.1 million, making up 48.3 percent of total sales. This compares to 27.8 percent during the same six-month period last year.

Looking ahead, Ubisoft has a number of big games coming in the next few months, including Far Cry Primal, Rainbow Six Siege, and The Division. In addition, Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Just Dance 2016 were released in October, so their performance was not factored into this report.

"The quality of our back-catalog and the growing digitization of our business enabled us to deliver a solid performance in the first half of the year, even though--as planned--we did not release any major titles during the period," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a statement. "The fact that more than 80 percent of our annual sales are expected to be generated in the second half of the year mechanically weighed on our earnings for the first six months."

Ubisoft will hold an earnings call to discuss these results and more beginning at 9:15 AM PDT / 12:15 PM EDT/ 5:15 PM UK. Check back later for more.
