Gathering of Developers has released more information about Tropico, its upcoming strategy game, which is in development at PopTop Software. The game will let players take control of a small island nation and manage its development. Tropico includes more than 80 different types of structures, including buildings related to housing, industry, agriculture, mining, and more. Each structure has distinct advantages, but some have disadvantages as well. Factories, for instance, produce resources and provide employment, but they also cause pollution. Proper housing keeps the population happy by providing shelter, and farms generate food to keep the people healthy. Players can also build resort hotels and spas that will attract tourists and boost the economy, and they can build government buildings to show the power and authority of the dictator. In addition, structures like ports, roadways, and airports support trade and communication with the outside world.

For more information about Tropico, take a look at our collection of designer diaries for the game. Tropico is scheduled for release this April.
