Australian game developer Auran has announced that Trainz, its upcoming model railroad simulation game, will include a 3D Studio Max plug-in exporter. The exporter will let users add 3D models created in the modeling program to the game.

"Anybody with the appropriate skills and licensed software will be able to create their own models," said Auran CEO Greg Lane. "We expect that many of the modelers who have created content for Microsoft Train Simulator will be pleased that they can now convert their creations for use in Trainz."

The developer is also working to add support for other 3D modeling software. As an added incentive to create custom models, Auran will accept submissions from users to be included in future official updates to game.

We've posted some new screenshots in the gallery above showing off some of the detailed environments and train models that will appear in the game. Trainz is scheduled for release by Strategy First in February 2002. For more information, take a look at our previous coverage of the game and visit the official Trainz Web site.
