Total War: Rome II fastest preordered game in franchise history

Sega reveals preorder figures for upcoming strategy game are over six the number for Shogun 2 during its "first official week."

Total War: Rome II is the fastest preordered game in the history of the strategy series, publisher Sega announced today. According to the company's data, more than six times the number of gamers have preordered a copy during its "first official week" than did for predecessor Total War: Shogun 2.

In addition, Sega said the $155 Total War: Rome II Collector's Edition has seen strong preorders, with over half of the available copies already sold out in the United States. The publisher previously announced that the collector's edition would be limited to 22,000 units.

Lastly, Sega announced that it sold more than 2 million Total War games in the past year, despite no new core installment in the series being released.

Total War: Rome II launches September 3 for PC. Downloadable content will be available for all users on launch day for free. For more on the RTS, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

CA is getting greedy:

1- On disc DLC, which you pay to unlock.

2- No modding without 3rd-party tools because you might unlock the above.

Rome 1 was excellent, now they are getting too greedy. I'll pass.

And they said PC gaming was dead. "HA", to them I say.

Hopefully they make a World War I Total War game after this.

" According to the company's data, more than six times the number of gamers have preordered a copy". In the absence of the total number I imagine that Shogun was preordered by 1 and now there are 6 who preordered RTW2. Is this a news ? This is a bullshit...In the past there were companies who bragged about what figure they have etc and in the end it all was a lie. I'm sick of this. However, a title like Rome total war 2 doesn't need bullshit marketing lies, itself is a respected one and people will buy it, including me.

Looking good. Loved the first Total War Rome and was actually the game that encouraged me to play the RTS genre.

Great news the series deserves every success it gets. What I'm really waiting for tho, is Warhammer Total War, that's the next title in the series I think.

I wonder how long before this game turns into a fast paced fps. The more sales, the more it's gonna simplify and dumb itself down to increase the sales. It's a vicious circle

well they should think of buying Myth series from Bungie or who ever hold it. that would be new core installment into Total wa series

Hope they do or Bungie release MythIV. now about 15yeas since they released Myth II

Edit: Hope CA release tool kit faster and have better tool kits for modding. would love to see Third Age again :D.

Anything every think the TW battles are hard to control? There are so many units that it all becomes a random mess. And each unit has a ton of stats; how can each stat be significant?   Very little in the way of true tactics, you end up in a meat grinder. Maybe I dont know what the hell I'm doing.......

Oh man, do I hope and pray they have a Gladiator component to it!!!

@Virkhus  Sega decides this not CA

also thats how all games are like these days, so if you will pass because of the dlc you won't be buying 90% of the new games on pc. it changes nothing assuming you was going to preorder, you just get extra factions.

Efix484
Efix484

@Lord_Vader Nope MED 3 since they have the engine for a Sword and Bow TotalWar rdy to be use tanks to Rome II after they will do a Gun and Canon TW so your WW might have a chance.

TotalWarfan808
TotalWarfan808

@MrStygian Rome and all the Total War games are not RTS. If you knew what RTS stood for you might understand that you're completely wrong. Total War games are TBSG's or "Turn Based Strategy Game(s)", while you are saying it is a "Real Time Strategy Game". Please try not to be an idiot over the internet, you're making yourself look bad.

TotalWarfan808

@kozzy1234 How can you love a "series"(by the way), if it is at this point only one game, and now going to become a series with the release of RTW2? I have discovered your incompetence is much beyond any other person I've had the pleasure to meet.

@cirugo Have you ever played a Total War game before? One of the best pc exclusive series ever and non of there games have gotten bad reviews or sold bad.

Mkeegs79

@cirugo Lesson of what? I pre-order all my games. I have 8 games pre-ordered/paid off right now. I once had 15 games pre-order and all paid off before receiving them.

@cirugo It doesnt count with Total War, every single one has been brilliant.

GONtheSKYLORD

@Vienreich

The series has been around since 2000 so why would they start now? Besides, the game isn't difficult in the first place unless you are playing on Legendary or maybe a step below that. The easiest modes allow even a new player to dominate if they do the tutorial.

Ayato_Kamina_1
Ayato_Kamina_1

@Vienreich It's a fine balance between producing successful sequels that build upon the success of their predecessors. Change too much and you lose your core audience (whether it be from "dumbing" it down or any other sort of change) don't change enough and people will say it's just the same game as the previous one.

Sequels are difficult in any form of media, whether it be games or movies.

kozzy1234

@Imperiusmax I love how they finally got COOP perfect. I hated having to watch your friends fight the AI in previous games or fight as the AI vs your friend. In Shogun 2 you can both work together and gift each other units to use during battles, love it.

@brainiac1988 I'm goosebumped all over listening to this. I just whipped out my RTW and been playing all week. Yes, still just as addictive as I remembered. The battle music is also awesome.

@MythTrip

Yeah sometimes it can be like that. Battle plans fall apart, or you miss something as new situations develop. I usually find one of the mods that extends the life/hp/armor of the units so battle will last longer, allows more time for you to apply tactics. Look them up on the Total War Center forums. Loads of good stuff there.

@med12 @Virkhus

That's like saying every politician is a corporate tool so not voting for any of them leaves you.....with no one.

Sometimes the most powerful act is doing nothing.

They know we're going to keep buying these games, so they do whatever the fuck they want. They over charge us,  release half-made rip offs, simplify and dumb down games to attract new audiences, and manipulate us with theatrics to pre-order the games and we are stupid enough to go along with it. Unless we choose not to buy any of their games.

picho86

@med12 @Virkhus That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm passing on great games because I won't pay them to ruin the industry.

MrStygian
MrStygian

Funny, because you're the one telling me I'm the idiot and your calling this a "turn based strategy" Tell me, "Total War Fan", where are the turn based elements? Oh you mean the campaign map? Hardly. Even Total War developers pride themselves on the actual strategy gameplay on the battlefield, not in the "Grand Campaign". Please try not to be an asshole, but I guess we both have our problems, right?

TotalWarfan808

@Mkeegs79 @cirugo Well doesn't that make you a cool customer! 15 pre-orders out at once! Big boy with his big boy credit card that he stole from his poor idiot mother.

chaosbrigade

@Gonefishing95 @cirugo I love Total War to death, but don't you remember the state with which Empire was launched? It was so bugged almost to the point of being unplayable.

Shogun 2 also had its fair share of bugs when it was first launched and weren't fixed until a month after.

Creative Assembly's history of releasing buggy, unpolished and untested games isn't exactly inspiring confidence.

@vahram90 @med12 @Virkhus  Oh Oh.. Here's an idea.. If you don't like it why don't you change it? Can you make games? Any of you? If you wanna see something different do something about it instead of crying about it.

@vahram90 @med12 @Virkhus Yall sound like snobby little bitches.  If your broke asses don't have the money to pay for some one's hard work then I suggest you get on your hustle. It's 2013 on planet Earth and the way it works is you pay to play.  Don't be mad because you won't be playing Rome 2 with the rest of us. :) Go find another place to troll.

@chaosbrigade @Gonefishing95 @cirugo You may have a point, but also look at the support CA also gives to it's Total War community. Whatever they usually don't fix, the mod community usually takes the reigns and makes slight, yet amazing adjustments.
