Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for PS4 spotted

Amazon Italy reveals new version of 2013 Tomb Raider reboot may be headed to Sony's next-generation console.

March's Tomb Raider reboot from Crystal Dynamics may be released on PlayStation 4 if a new Amazon listing is anything to go by. Amazon Italy (via Eurogamer) posted a PS4 listing for Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition with a release date of January 24, 2014.

A second listing is also posted on Amazon Italy's website, though its platform is listed as "classified." Tomb Raider was released in March on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, but not Wii U. Versions for PS4 and Xbox One have not been announced or even widely rumored until today.

According to the product page, the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will include the main game, all its DLC, and an artbook. Various multiplayer map packs for Tomb Raider were released, though no new story content was ever introduced.

A Square Enix representative was not immediately available to comment. A Tomb Raider sequel is currently in development for next-generation consoles.

Sweet. I didn't pick up the original version, but have been wanting to buy it at some point; I just remembered that this was happening, so I'll wait. I hope it's happening.

I only played this on my high end PC and was very impressed with the graphics and cinematography. I can only imagine how bad it must look on the PS3. It should look amazing on the PS4

Well, I would hope so. Can't seem to finish it on my PS3.  Would be great if this game was really going to PS4 so I can dwindle my PS3 backlog. I'm upset The Last of Us, Beyond:Two Souls and Grand Tourismo 6 weren't launch titles for PS4. It would've been more epic.

A PS4/X1 re-release would be nice. I played on the 360, loved it and then pawned it. I've regretted that decision. A release on next gen would be great.

if this is true its a  total waste of time for a company that already has 5+ yrs for development of any game !! this time should b focus on a good ff game (not that cinematic looking mess ff15) or work on older ips to bring to console and not mobile

What a definitive version ? This game had  no dlcs except for multiplayer. And multiplayer is dead.

Still want Tomb Raider Reboot 2. BUT ON PC.

Remember people, if this doesn't sell five million, it will be considered a failure.

This is Square-Enix trying to get more money. All the people who wanted to play this game on the PS3 and 360 have already played it and can so for the next several years. I just cannot see this selling all that well on the PS4 much like I cannot see Rayman Legends selling on the PS4/Xbox One. Square-Enix clearly haven't learned their lesson from Deus Ex Director's cut which hasn't sold particularly well because the people who wanted to play Deus Ex have already played it as it was out in 2011.

Instead of wasting their money on stuff like this, why don't they focus on bringing KH3 out and make some real money off that?

Nothing about this reboot was "definitive"

This would be very cool indeed.  I played through this game 3 times on my PS3, would love to go through it again in 1080p on my PS4.

Is this version less boring than PS3/360 one?

They will probably just port the PC version over, Tomb Raider was optimized for the exact hardware that PS4 has, AMD's GCN architecture

So people buying the previous version was duped? ;)

This is what you can expect from Next-gen. Older games remade for the platform. With that said, i'm glad i didn't get it.

yes yes yes, but will there be TRESS FX??!

Why are the consoles not backward compatible to begin with. Developers have to redo their games because of the cell processor instead of giving focus elsewhere.

PC version  was quite awesome, can't call it much tomb raider, it's more likely lara croft adventure because there were no tombs mostly still great game  with great atmosphere.

You can get map packs of a game that no one plays online anymore. Woo!

Good SP though.

Wouldnt mind if its 1080p at 60fps with all the effects from the PC version

I don't like names like Definitive edition. It tells people who bought the original that their version is not definitive. That's a slap to the face for people who paid $60 for it.

I bet they wanted to call it GOTY edition but don't expect to win any GOTY awards so they came up with this.

Grimkillah

I fail to see the point of this "Definitive Edition", considering all the DLCs are either multiplayer maps or cosmetic gears. No new achievements/trophies, and no additional story contents. The original plain version is enough. As for the art book, just download a digital version off the net.

@themc_7 Indeed, I have this on Steam, because that was the preferred way to play and got it like 12,99 €, but still I'm bit of a sucker for physical media being my shelves and I really like this game so maybe I grab the PS4 version.

@19James89 A lot of people buy a game and enjoy it, but after a play through or two, it sits on the shelf. So they trade it in. Then the DLCs come out, they wish they hadn't traded it in. So they buy it again as a GOTY edition or Next gen release. I bought the Borderlands 2 GOTY, and Deus Ex director's cut after having already bought and played them at launch. I'm dumb, just like many other consumers.

@DarkSaber2k I disagree I think the  Tomb Raider reboot has saved what was a dying franchise.

@wexorian No tomb? there were tombs like the Tomb Of The Lost Adventurer which was a dlc for preorders, do you not remember every tomb had a puzzle to solve to get to the goodies at the end.

Toysoldier34

@gamebuyer22 They would need to pull a lot of fancy work to make the consoles run it at fully maxed out PC settings for 60FPS and 1080p.

@Grimkillah There is one tomb that can be unlocked early on, which was a day 1 DLC. And some preorder bonus early unlocks (they are in game items that you get right off the bat instead of needing to unlock them with points later).

That's pretty much all the single player content that's DLC.

@19James89

Dying?  Underworld was actually a really good game and looked exactly like the Lara Croft character.  The reboot was more of a realistic interpretation of the character and was probably the best Tomb Raider I've played, but I didn't think the franchise was dying.  It was more stagnant.  If they want a definitive version then they need to include a dlc of her mansion like previous Tomb Raider to explore and they also should incorporate the tressFX on consoles.

@wexorian @MaximusMatrix I'm getting pretty tired of this age old argument. Which is better a $400 console or a $1000 gaming rig? Obviously the latter, but not everyone can afford it. It's like you PC players have some sort of inferiority complex and you have to keep telling yourselves "We're the best!" on every single comment section. How's GTA5 on PC? Oh yeah....

DarkSaber2k
DarkSaber2k

@lostn @Grimkillah Always nice to know that there were practically no tombs in the game because they cut them out for DLC. Wait no that's just annoying.

john_matrix8953

@themc_7 @plm3d_basic @19James89 But Legend and Underworld didn't have the gameplay of the reboot. There are tons of games out there with great story but terrible gameplay and they ended up fading away from obscurity and tons of games with bad stories but awesome gameplay. So I would say that it was the direction that Edios took with the gameplay that won newcomers over.

@themc_7 @plm3d_basic @19James89 TR sales were stagnating. The reboot is the best selling TR game in a long time. Or would you want it to end up like Legacy of Kain? *sheds tear for his beloved fallen franchise*

themc_7
themc_7

@plm3d_basic @19James89 the series was definitely getting dry. Legend and Underworld were decent at best. There wasn't much new and exciting there. The Tomb Raider reboot on the other hand was really good. I loved it.

Toysoldier34

While the Last of Us is a great looking game it still suffers from aliasing a bit and not running at a native 1080p. The game looks great but it did all it could with the old hardware. Tomb Raider fully maxed out looks far cleaner and quite beautiful also.
