Tokyo Jungle sells over 200,000 units

Sony plans to sell 10,000 more copies; pushes out new promotional ad in Shibuya district.

by

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced that survival action title Tokyo Jungle had topped the 200,000 sales and shipment mark. The sales figure was based on figures from June 7-22.

Japanese consumers were probably enamored by the game's concept.

The unit numbers include both the shipment and sales of both the retail and downloadable versions of the game via PSN. In addition, Sony will be airing a commercial with the sole message of attempting to sell 10,000 more copies. This advertisement will be broadcasted on the public monitors located within the Shibuya district of Tokyo, Japan; the online version will be up on Sony's official site on July 6.

Appears quite a new idea for a post-apocalyptic scenario and I really plan to buy&play it, but great I find also the idea of Sony's C.A.M.P! initiative to support young Japanese developers with this game. And it seems they had quite some qualified testers to try it out (Toshihiro Nagoshi, Keji Inafune, Atsushi Inaba, Yoshinori Kitase, Suda Goichi...). -- Imitable example!

Classic Japanese game.

Any word on the likelihood of this coming to Europe yet?

Cool concept, but I watched a half an hour of gameplay from this and it didn't seem like very much fun. Maybe the guy playing didn't know what he was doing. Wish I had a PS3 so I could at least try it.

could this be the Katamari Damacy surprise-sleeper-weird hit of this gen? Bring it on, Sony!

what about the other hundred thousands sells they would make here in the west?

Excellent. I can't wait to add my purchase to these numbers, when it gets released in North America.

It will be fantastic to have something to play which isn't about a 5-o'clock shadow wearing, grizzle-voiced he-man jerking his phallic gun from beginning to end.

It is tempting to buy this with my Japanese PSN account. I will look into how well I can get through with it in Japanese. Otherwise I will just wait on the English release.

This is one of those games from Japan that I'd love to get my hands on.....

the concept sounds insane but seeing it in action it looks good....

Looks like fun. They could continue releasing new maps for it as time goes on.

the "Animal Planet - like" trailer must be helping the sales

As strange as the concept may sound, it actually looks extremely fun after watching its video. I too am waiting for this game to spread outside Japan.

I find it kind of strange they are only aiming to sell 10,000 more after 200,000. Then again this is Japan with a very weird game and weird ambitions. No slight, I am fascinated by their culture, I am sure they have made their money. I should applaud them for not being overly greedy, or so it seems.

When do we get the US PSN version? Please soon, I need something strange like this... we all do.

@tightwad34 200,000 is where a game starts to turn profit with most games. With smaller population in Japan thats a good number, though the 10,000 is small. I would guess that the sales numbers had a big spike then slowed down quickly so looking at that showed that 10,000 would be expected. Though I would guess that they could easily make their money off the costs of exporting the game.
