Titanfall player count is 6v6, Respawn confirms

Matches of Respawn Entertainment's multiplayer-focused Titanfall will feature a maximum of 12 human players, or six players on each side, the studio has confirmed.

Studio boss Vince Zampella said that the player count had been tuned for gameplay rather than any technical limitations, writing on Twitter that "6v6 is max player count. Turned out to be the best balance with AI for us."

Titanfall matches have been set at 6v6 in recent public demonstrations of the game, but until now the studio had not finalised the game's player count. Responding to the shocked replies of some users, Zampella asserted that 6 human players on each side "felt best" for the game as a whole. "That's humans only count," he later added, "there are lots of AI, everyone can have a Titan in follow or guard mode too."

Titanfall pads out each team with a bunch of AI soldiers--occasionally described by Respawn as "popcorn enemies"--that will allow players an opportunity to score points in the game without facing off against their more challenging human adversaries.

The shooter is one of the most anticipated next-gen titles currently in development, and Respawn has recently explained that snipers won't be able to rely on the controversial tactic of quickscoping, and that the team is not currently looking at implementing modding tools at launch.

Before Christmas, Respawn also teased the possibility of a Titanfall beta.

Titanfall will be released for Xbox One and PC on March 11.
