Titanfall on PC will require Origin

Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella confirmed via Twitter that the upcoming shooter Titanfall will not be coming to Steam.

by

Following a Titanfall event earlier this week, Respawn Entertainment continues to drop bombshell announcements surrounding their upcoming mech-based shooter. This time, Zampella just announced that the game will require Origin to play on PC.

Responding to a question on Twitter, "Does it require Origin?" Zampella wrote: "Yes, it does. We'll miss you."

As an EA-published game, it's not entirely surprising that the game will use EA's online service, but the confirmation will likely come as a big disappointment to Steam users. Earlier today Zampella also revealed Titanfall's minimum PC specs via Twitter.

But what are your thoughts? Does this make a difference in your purchasing or platform decision?

Lost sale from me. I don't care for Origin at all. I only have 3 games for Origin for a reason.

I wasn't gonna get this game anyways. ::kicks the can:: Seriously, why does EA and Ubisoft have to be such bitches and demand their own fucking DRM client? (Don't answer unless the answer is "They're bitches")

Yep. I'm not getting Titanfall then. Screw that.

I have Steam and Origin, I don't have a problem with either. I must not be cool enough to hate Origin.

If it'll only be on Xbox One and Origin, then I'm certain it's a game I won't be playing anytime soon. And I have no problems with that at all, it's not like there's a shortage of great games to play. :)

This is a huge mistake on EA's part but expected.  Respawn never should have gotten into bed with them.  The name Titanfall seems appropriate.  No wonder EA is on shaky ground.

Well Titanfall fans, enjoy your $20 $30 $40 $50 DLCs

Competition is good. I prefer Steam to Origin. I'd never have had Origin if it weren't for ME3 and BF4. But, more important than not liking Origin is preventing a Steam monopoly. I'll prolly get it (not at launch though).

It should be no surprise that EA wants you as their bitch.

I don't see any difference between Origin and Steam other than the prices, both are stores and both are DRM.

you know what else requires origin the bin it will never be accepted no matter what games you put on it so just give it up your only going to hurt your own sales

Is anyone really surprised? As soon as you heard EA you should have known. Origin isn't a service I enjoy, but I might give the game a chance regardless. EA gives people no reason to convince people to choose Origin over Steam.

Seriously, WHO CARES. most of you are moaning like you are about to have your children taken from you. origin isnt a bad client, I have never had any problems with it AND NEVER WILL. Most of you are moaning because you decided to jump on the "I hate EA" bandwagon like the rest of the sheep. you have no plausible grounds to moan about it.

granted, EA is a bad company, but don't judge the title and the client purely based on its affiliation. Titanfall will be a great game, end of story.

in short: GROW UP PEOPLE!

origin was sh*t at the beginning but it got better and better, this might sound weird or even wrong to some people but their customer service is amazing, so now we have two good services, Steam and Origin.

Release on steam or not buying. Plain and simple as that. I don't need 2 apps for getting PC games.

@SkamArtist It's a preference thing. And for me it's an anti-EA thing. I really dislike EA and its ways. It has nothing to do with being "cool enough" or having some hipster opinion on the matter. And I'm not trying to argue and be a hateful internet guy. lol I'm just saying.

AK1015

@snxx True. Titanfall wasn't one that was high on my list anyway. It's just another shooter to me. There's too many on the market... Let me rephrase: There's too many big-name shooters on the market. They all blend in too me. Halo is the only one I actually care about, but that's me.

@lfebaggins Just because they will have DLC that doesn't mean we should purchase it. I couldn't give two shits about their DLC but I will buy the game because I'm through with CoD and Battlefield.

@Arther-la-Blunt

I do not understand your sense of mind.

It has been proven that EA doesn't have good solutions to anything. I rather have complete Steam monopoly than Origin monopoly.

With Origin, games don't even work, games download super slow, it spys you constantly, slows down your PC, has very bad customerservice..

Valve wants customers best so obviously it's better than Origin, because EA wants only EA's best and will throw customer in a muddy puddle because they aren't willing to pay 59,99€+19,99€+9,99€ summs for ONE GAME.

@daz10x I disagree. Most PC gamers have no reason at all to have an Origin account.

@jordanpolly  The issue frankly is nothing to do with the client or EA it's about having effective market competition the more digital becomes the main way people buy games the more anti-competition it is to have client exclusives. The point is that just as Valve should release their games on multiple clients EA should do the same, that burden falls more heavily on EA since they publish a hell of a lot more games and forcing people onto their client is not the way forward. Persuading people to your client with great features and non-intrusive DRM will get you much further.

Stepn2myworld
Stepn2myworld

@jordanpolly  First, while some may have jumped on the "I hate EA" bandwagon, others have perfectly good reasons to hate them.  Personally, I hate how they have wrecked the Simcity franchise and how they milk the popularity of the Sims and abuse fan loyalty by release expansion packs for features that were also expansion packs in the previous games, e.g., Pets, Seasons, and University.

While you admit that EA is a bad company, you try to argue in the same sentence not to judge the Origin client due to its affiliation. If you want good things to be affiliated with you, you can't do things that ruins your customer's perception of you of as a company. Here are some examples, Battlefield 4, Simcity, and Online Passes. Thus, by affiliation alone, Origin is fighting an uphill battle. For some, an exclusive is not enough to convince try Origin.

Your assumption that Titanfall will be a great game is conjecture at this point. Neither you, I, or anyone else knows for sure. It might be great or might complete mess.

Finally, just because someone expresses an opinion does not mean they are immature as you have suggested with your "GROW UP PEOPLE" comment. I poked some holes in your argument, but I did not suggest you were an idiot for feeling that way.

@jordanpolly  I recently had a customer service call with EA support and guess what I got out of it, a free game! I have no qualms with this company based on my interactions with their products and now their customer service. People need to chill out.

@Kairysama  exactly and we don't need a monopoly with steam, as much as I love Valve and Gabe the completion is good.

@Printul_Noptii

great mentality to have if your a true game fan.  I agree.  Play what we like, people are all worried about origins being a Trojan. I just laugh at them and think they probably use Skype, FB, xbox live and chrome and buy things online all the time.  They don't need origins to collect peoples data.

djpetitte

@Codesterz

they wont need your sale, if the game is good or even great people will pay and install origins if playing on pc.  half these nay sayers will download origin.

duddooboy

@moonlightwolf01 @jordanpolly  Agreed. I do have one concern though (playing devil's advocate here). From EA's point of view, not going on Steam means they don't have to pay royalties to Valve for a game that EA owns, and I think that's too big a factor to ignore. If you can distribute the game yourselves, why pay somebody else to do it?

moonlightwolf01
moonlightwolf01

@skidmarkmike11 @jordanpolly  Also in terms of customer support its fine if you live in america however the customer support for the rest of the world is a forum for you to post issues with no guarantee that it will be read or dealt with by anyone. I don't live in america and my purchase information was lost on an EA server for several weeks and hilariously although origin said I'd brought various games when it came to try and play them it couldn't verify that I owned them. So for several weeks I was locked out of my games and the only help I got was EA's support closing (as solved) forum threads where me and all the people in a similar situation where trying to get our problems heard.

ExplicitMike

@skidmarkmike11 The game is not out yet and at the same time people claim greatness. That confuses me.  For me is not so much as to open 2 clients is more of a EA doesn't give you a choice. Plus they offer nothing new. Same service no good discounts on games.
