Thomas Was Alone shifts over 700,000 copies

Indie game from Mike Bithell reaches sales milestone across PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Indie hit Thomas Was Alone has sold over 700,000 copies, creator Mike Bithell told Joystiq.

The figure includes sales across PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Thomas Was Alone was released on PC in 2012, with the PS3 and PS Vita versions following thereafter.

Bithell recently revealed a follow-up called Volume, a top-down stealth game set to release in 2014. The game will also allow players to modify levels and share results with the community.

Thomas Was Alone, but then he moved into 700 000 people's homes, so now he's not alone anymore.

IMHO, the best Indie game ever. AFTER played Meat boy, Limbo, Bastion, The Swapper, Spelunky, To the Moon, Thirty Flights of Loving, Braid, Cave Story, Terraria, etc etc etc, I played this and (i repeat) best indie game ever. I bought a copy for my brother, another one for my student, one for my cousin, one for my friend and another one for a game store owner, just because I think it should be mandatory for everyone to play this.

Give me your ID on Steam and I'll buy you one. This is not being a fanboy. Once you play it, you'll understand.

The way this game looks it gives people hope that maybe they can make some money doing something someday.  I can't even click on the pics or the video cuz it looks like a real piece of sh*t and can't believe 700,000 people bought it.

Such a great game, and well worth the pick up.

This game is awesome, seriously awesome. It's surprising how good writing, visual design and voice acting can combine with gameplay to be so emotionally engaging. And all with a bunch of square polygons as protagonists!

One of those surprisingly engaging games. I loved every minute of it.

I love how Ubisoft and other big companies bitch and moan about the costs of AAA games and how new IP's are not worth it  Then you see indie developers like this selling a massive number of games when they probably did them as a hobby or for very little money.

It was an enjoyable little indie but it was wayyyyyy to easy

Also this game was free on PS+ a few months ago. I'm interested to know if these sales figures include that

@marceldelta I would certainly love a copy :). But better give it to someone somewhat hesitant to play it. I'd buy it for sure, but I don't have access to a credit card right now. Soon, though :S...

@DeViLzzz

Slow down there hot-head , you could lose a finger or two writing all that negativity .

@atopp399 "For very little money" are the keywords here, which means the profit margins are quite big with these many sales. With massive budgets comes massive sales goals, but they can't trim down the budget because Ubisoft also claims that gamers *want* all the stuff that makes Ubisoft's games so expensive. They're basically screwed if they can't find a way to please customers and lower each games budget.

@ArcherRO "be there or be square" doesn't fit in anywhere with these characters, because they're far from being square, although some character's geometrical shape might be a square.

@Pre_ordered_PS4 This game wasn't aimed at challenge though. It was aiming for its simple yet effective design to make it become more than the sum of its parts for the average player. It really did that for me. Being able to complete the whole game pretty smoothly without ever getting 'stuck' on a level really let me focus on and appreciate its story and humor rather than getting frustrated with it like most puzzle games that are meant to make you think each level through over and over.

@DeViLzzz  Yep, it seems pieces of sh*t tend to look at this game and think it's another piece of sh*t, heh. Happens often with many things.
