The Last of Us wins BAFTA Game of the Year Award, Steam sale for other award winners and nominees

Beating out GTA 5 and Tearaway, The Last of Us takes top honors at the British Academy awards presentation.

UPDATE: Coinciding with the awards show, Valve is offering the winning games at a discount over on the Steam Store for the next 24 hours.

The original story appears below:

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards program took place tonight, and The Last of Us walked away with top honors and five awards. It wasn't the overwhelming victory that Naughty Dog's game experienced at the DICE awards earlier this year, but the game managed to handily beat out its closest competition: Grand Theft Auto V and Tearaway (which took three awards each).

Tom MC Shea couldn't help but take a personal disliking to a *fictional* character (ie Joel from the TLOU). And this is why he scored the game 8/10?

Aha aha aha aha....

It was also funny seeing him in the video attempt to defend his criticisms of the game to the developers.

Glad to see Rome 2 nowhere near this list.  When Papers Please beats you as best strategy you realise you've released a turd of a game.

Brothers actually reduced me to tears.  It was incredible and unexpected.  A real masterpiece of emotive storytelling and innovation at it's most powerful.

Best Debut Game - Gone Home. Seriously, who gives these awards? 2013 must have been a terrible year then.

What a weak year. at least we can still look forward to 2015.

As if to piss off all the people that thought The Last of Us was an interactive movie, it now has won Bafta for Best Game. Just to add insult to injury, Gone Home won a Bafta as well, for Best Debut Game.

I'm glad that Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons won an award, for Game innovation, because it is quite something special.

So the most overrated game of 2013 wins awards? Big deal.

Hmm, TLoU didn't do anything for me personally, but that being said, I can't think of any other game that really earned the award.

'Game' critics need to start doing their job and hand out game awards. I played Last of Us and while it's got a cool story, a good game it does not make.

The Sony formula of making movies disguised as games needs to stop and critics need to wipe their tears and see it.

The last of us and GTA V, what an amazing year 2013 was

Every time I see a big steam sale I wish I had a good gaming PC. Just don't have the money to put a decent one together, but there's no arguing the value that comes with one.

Of course it won at BAFTA. Its a interactive film.

The Last of Us is a masterpiece!

Same resolution as Titanfall almost... but I agree the PS3 game Last of Us looks better than Titanfall on Xone... no doubt.

Titanfall is a PC game cut to the guts and dumbed down to play on Xone @ 792p at almost 60fps.

Now this game needs a definitive edition for the PS4!

This game keeps winning awards everywhere and it is no surprise, this game is truly a master piece. Thank you Naughty Dog for creating one of the best ever made. Hopefully we PS4 owners will get Last Of Us 2!.

@19James89  All the winners are overrated games "popular" games. Except Tearaway.

I doubt that you would have said the same for Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds.

@bunchanumbers As are mostly every game out there that has a story. The only games that are not interactive films are those without story modes, such as sports games and so on.

Yea, the mechs you get in during Last of Us look ten times...wtf are you even talking about? The two games are on different planets...literally - you can't possibly be that blind of a fanboy to compare a 3rd person movie game to an FPS, can you!?!

Sevenizz

If you completed the story, err, game - why would you buy it again on another platform? Are you one of those that replaced his VHS collection with DVDs and is now replacing it with BluRays?

I think it means "any critical or popular success that James89 doesn't like."

@SpicaAntares @immortality20  Duh. Already played it anyways. But games like Bioshock Infinite (7.50), Brothers ($5), Tomb Raider (6.66), Rayman Legends (13.50) and Lego Marvel ($10) is just such an absolute steal.

@diego_corleone @anshanlord@19James89You're right, Corleone. How many of us have felt the same way about some game or another, (cough, Titanfall, cough), but just haven't posted a comment about it? We (or I) maybe shouldn't be so quick to pounce.

@immortality20 @SpicaAntares  the PS3 had sales this good anyway you should pay closer attention to the PS store sales brothers was like $5 on PSN in January and tomb raider was aroud $6 in January i ended up getting older game i hadn't purchased yet like mass effect 1 which was like 5 or 6 dollars crysis 1 which was the same and some others that i forgot

@SpicaAntares

Whoa there - you are still a bit sore over the 2009 to 2011 period, aren't you? Those years when game-makers were leaving the computer platform for the consoles?

(Of course, they made U-turns later.)

Bioshock Infinite was $30 a few days back on Steam. Got the game for free with PS+. Not every games get ported and when they do they usually show their console's origin. Not every publishers lowers their price and when they do its for games out since Noah built his boat (Activision).
