The Bigs 2 swinging this summer

Teaser trailer packed in with MLB 2K9 offers first glimpse at sequel to Blue Castle's arcade-style baseball game.

2K Sports releases its MLB-branded baseball game each year to varying degrees of critical success. In 2007, the publisher tweaked its game plan, launching the Blue Castle Games-developed arcade-style baseball game The Bigs a couple of months after its flagship MLB 2K7. Surprising to some, the former game was better received by critics, thanks to its clever game modes as well as its fast-and-loose approach to the US' national pastime.

Although The Bigs sat the '08 season out, it is already warming up for its return in 2009. As revealed by a teaser trailer included with the just-released MLB 2K9, 2K Sports has put in the call for The Bigs 2 to arrive this summer. No specific gameplay details or platforms were revealed as part of the trailer, though it did show a number of superhuman feats of baseball greatness, as performed by the likes of Roberto Clemente, Wade Boggs, and a number of other stars.

The trailer also did not reveal whether 2K Sports has returned to original Bigs developer Blue Castle Games for the sequel. Earlier this month, Capcom officially revealed the Vancouver-based studio as the developer behind its next survival horror zombie slayer, Dead Rising 2. 2K Sports had not returned requests for comment as of press time.
