Telltale says Star Wars would be a "great fit"

Company cofounder says Star Wars would be a "great fit and very cool" for future game.

by

The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us developer Telltale Games has teased that Star Wars would be a "great fit" for a new episodic game from the company.

"Coming from LucasArts we have so many people here that love Star Wars and have worked with the license so that would be a great fit and very cool," cofounder Dan Connors said during a recent Reddit AMA (via Polygon).

Connors also teased that Telltale is working with a number of "dream" licenses for future games.

"In addition, we will be working on a few licenses that definitely fall into our dream IP scenario and we can't wait to announce those," Connors said.

Connors did not provide any further details about these projects. Other company founder Kevin Bruner echoed Connors' comments.

"I'll also say a Telltale Star Wars game would make me VERY happy! We've got some IP coming up that pretty much checks all of my personal favorites, which absolutely amazes/honors me," he said.

Telltale has created episodic games based on a number of high-profile franchises. In addition to The Walking Dead and Fables, the studio has worked on IP like Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, Wallace and Gromit, and Law & Order.

Seeing how EA has exclusive rights to the Star Wars franchise now, I doubt this'll happen.  Although I'd love to see it.

Telltale has earned my trust with The Walking Dead series and The Wolf Among Us. So I'd be a-ok with them doing a Star Wars game.

A game based on Frank Miller's Sin City graphic novels would KICK ASS

I love a good story game but I think Stars Wars should be a RPG or FPS or strategy game. I want to feel in control with my character and being able to do everything on my own rather than been given choices. I'm not against episodic games but I feel Telltale isn't a good fit for Star Wars franchise. Sorry guyz!

Oh god, yes please. After the disappointing SWTOR and 1313 cancellation, Star Wars needs a great team like Telltale working on it.

R2D2 goes the other way.

C3PO disapproves.

Please don't...I don't want an episodic game about dialogue in the Star Wars Universe....How would it even work?

A guy draws a blaster on you:

1) Talk him down

2) Draw Lightsaber

3) Force Push him down a cliff

4) Release the Ewoks!

I'm a big fan of Telltale, these are the guys I would trust to make a good STAR WARS game.

I very much like what they have with The Wolf Among Us, so I'm not against them doing a Star Wars game. They don't have to do them with these comic book graphics or gameplay mechanics, but a more story focused Star Wars game would be a nice change from all the others. EA has got several studios working on Star Wars action games, so we don't need more of those. KotOR and the books (even some fanfilms) have shown that there are great stories to be told.

If the free games were on disc I would go for that but all digital not worth my time or data allowance.

Telltale...you do know that EA owns the Star Wars video game rights, right?

That means that, to make ST games you would need to make a pact with the devil....gulp....don't do it.

Could be really good. I'd like to see them make a Star Wars game, but I'm more excited about DICE working on the next Battlefront, which is already confirmed and I assume they've started working on it. I can't wait to see another trailer or gameplay movie.

Might wana slow down there Telltale, You had trouble releasing seasoin 1 of the walking dead on a cinsisant basis, now you have 'the wolf among us', AND 'the walking dead' season 2 to work on, and your looking at star wars? One game at a time... Maybe that's notthe the best way to do it, but thart's how I would... then again maybe that's why I am not in the games indutry...

I hope one of the "dream" licenses is Monkey Island.  I want season 2 dammit!

An interactive Star Wars story will be very interesting indeed. Hopefully Disney will see this as a potential opportunity.

@athrun07 I agree. They can't do it like they usually do. But teaming up with someone that would make the gameplay and environment, while TT makes the story, would be awesome, as they know how to drag you in.

I would say Bioware for the gameplay, but with KotOR, DA and ME, it seems like they want a mainstream recipe that works for all 3. So thats not their strong suit, but story is (mostly). So it would have to be someone else or Bioware should make another KotOR series, with little to no connection to everything else.

@Breyant SWTOR was only dissapionting as a MMO. Class stories rock there! And they are trying hard to pull it from the pit. Recent content patches were good, imo.

@Hurvl Agreed, Star Wars is centered on Sith vs Jedi wars, but is not limited to them. Remember Warcraft Adventures - it was a very interesting and promising quest concept, until Blizz cut it off.

@Evil_Sidekick I could be mistaken but I think they only own the movie properties telltale is known for buying th comic properties like walking dead. Although they have the ability to make a game letting EA publish it if I am wrong.

RedLegZeff
RedLegZeff

@Evil_Sidekick Did disney give them exclusivity on all star wars properties? As long as they didn't I wouldn't see a problem. It's a genre that EA wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, meaning it would be very interesting.

@Jshaw71 They already state in the article that they are working on other IP's, but that doesn't mean that they're spreading themselves too thin. The preproduction people aren't busy with just one game until it's released and there are often more than one team in a company, so that they can work on a few projects at the same time.

@sakaixx Ya, we haven't had a Monkey Island game since Tales of Monkey Island. I can't quite remember who made it though...

@tomservo51 SWToR is pretty much KOTOR 3.  At least it started out that way.  Then EA grabbed BioWare and said this needs to be the MMO.  While I like it, I can see why many don't.  But it does finish up the story of Revan.

@Vidpci lol I'd really like to know how Bioware sold out in regards to Kotor.

@BamaGoatt hmm, i thought i read in the pressrelease that disney acquired all things related to star wars, movies, books, comics, merchandising, etc... and EA got exclusive rights to publish the games... but i could be mistaken...

anyway, i am really excited about all those star wars games that are gonna come our way... even if its EA that's releasing them...

oh and the movies too, wonder how they are gonna solve the openingscene, with the iconic 20th century music not being there anymore...

@Riddick123 @tomservo51 It finishes up Revan??? That must be a joke. Really, I fucking wanted to smash my screen when I saw how they finished him off like trash.

@Riddick123 @tomservo51 The book, "The Old Republic: Revan" truly finishes up the story of Revan, I suggest it to anyone who has played KOTOR.

@Auriken @Vidpci I think he means the merger with EA, since KotOR 1 is almost 10 years old by now.
