Multi-title deal between Tecmo and mobile publisher Mforma bears first fruit; football classic released for untethered gamers.

The first title to come from a deal announced last month between game maker Tecmo, Inc. and mobile game developer/publisher Mforma, Tecmo Bowl, was released today.

The title, which has chalked up impressive sales since its first release in 1990, has a recognized pedigree among gamers. Tecmo Bowl first appeared on the NES game console. After selling more than five million copies on various platforms (NES, SNES, PlayStation and GameBoy included), the mobile version is now available to all AT&T wireless subscribers. The game will soon migrate to the Verizon, Cingular, Sprint, and T-Mobile game decks as well.

Tecmo Bowl is the first of an unspecified number of classic Tecmo titles due for wireless gamers. Mforma also has a deal with Taito Corp to bring some of that company's classic titles to mobile gamers, with Space Invaders and Puzzle Bobble due before the end of the year.
