Tales of Monkey Island Ep. 2 sails to PC Aug. 20

Telltale's latest adventure series returns to the desktop platform later this month in The Siege of Spinner Cay.

Considering its experience with Wallace & Gromit, Strong Bad, and Sam & Max, Telltale Games pretty much has the whole monthly episodic release schedule down to a science at this point. With the first installment of its new Tales of Monkey Island adventure series debuting on the PC and Wii in July, the developer said today that episode two, The Siege of Spinner Cay, will be available for the desktop platform on August 20.

Beware of swashbuckling.

In the first episode, Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, franchise protagonist Guybrush Threepwood found himself once again hassled by the undead pirate LeChuck, who had once again kidnapped the errant sailor's wife. Episode two picks up where the first left off, with Threepwood having just escaped Flotsam Island aboard The Screaming Narwhal and on the prowl for LeChuck.

Telltale's Tales of Monkey Island adventure is a five-part series in all. On the PC, episodes can not be purchased stand-alone; rather, all five are packaged together for $34.95 and sold through Telltale's Web site. PC gamers are able to access new installments as they are made available.

The developer did not indicate when the Wii version will be available for download through Nintendo's WiiWare service. Check out GameSpot's review of the first installment for more on the game.

They said that it would be one episode a month for five months, but now we've already lost a week of August. If the next one slips a week then they will be made liars by October. Telltale release episodic content like a Dairy Farmer. They should drop all the other games they do and focus everything on making a Monkey Island episode every month for the next 15 years to make up for the absense. Then send the bill to Lucasarts.

I love the original and the 'remake' of the Tales on arcade but this just doesnt appeal. I dont like the look of it visually.

It maybe not 2 month away but if you consider that the episodes will be 2 months apart on average (delays are common) than it will take half a year to get to the last episode. Maybe the best idea is (was) to start playing after the last episode will be out.

August 20th is right around the corner people. Some of you make it seem like August 20th is 2 months away.

@athenian29 No, they weren't. Lucarts remade their own game. Telltales got the rights to work on Tales of Monkey Island, and thats it.

@Fandango_Letho Uh, Telltale was the company that ported Secrets of Monkey Island: Special Edition in the first place.

With the sudden emergence in adventure games- Particularly classics getting new installments or re-releases, It would be quite nice to see Grim Fandango get ported over to 360 or PS3!

@ Eltanan23: From what I heard the devs at telltale want to steer clear of any insult swordfighting. They said it was something that seemed to get a little less funny each new time it was used and they didn't want to be the ones to drive it into the ground.

SOMI : Special Edition wasn't very in my taste. I actually yawned through half of it. But i'm quite happy with the Telltale version of Monkey Island.

First episode was good. I was hoping for some insult-swordfighting though, maybe this next episode will have some. You fight like a dairy farmer!

I really liked the first episode, but I agree I would have expected these episodes to come out a little bit closer together. Oh well, I can handle the wait, it should be worth it if they keep up what they did in Ep. 1.

So I assume we'll have to wait an extra few weeks for the Wii version... AGAIN!? :|

I'm quite happy, but I hope this doesn't mean that we'll have to wait another 6 weeks for each episode, cause that's not what I call monthly.
