The second season of fighters coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will also be the last bit of DLC to release for the game, according to its director Masahiro Sakurai.

In Sakurai's regular column for Famitsu (translated by PushDustin), he mentions that the next six characters in development for the Nintendo Switch exclusive fighting game will be the last planned DLC updates for it. As Sakurai has already stated, all of these characters have already been chosen by Nintendo.

Sakurai also mentions that there are currently no plans for another Smash entry, presumably allowing him to work on other projects. Sakurai has been working on non-stop on the series since Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

With another six characters joining the roster, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will end with a roster of 88 characters, after launching with 76. The latest edition was yet another Fire Emblem character, with Byleth having joined the game earlier this year.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate remains an essential entry in the franchise, with the largest roster to date. It featured every character from past Super Smash Bros. entries and their associated DLC, while also including new additions at launch. It has since added six more characters to the roster.

It has been fantastic from day one, with critic Edmond Tran saying "Ultimate's diverse content is compelling, its strong mechanics are refined, and the encompassing collection is simply superb," in our 9/10 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate review.
