The period adventure Robin Hood: Origins is currently in production, and will be joined by another movie set in the world of the legendary outlaw. It has been reported that Suicide Squad actress Margot Robbie will star in a new film focusing on Maid Marian.

As reported by Variety, Robbie will star and produce the film, which currently has the title Marian. The script was written by newcomer Pete Barry and was bought by Sony after a bidding war.

According to the site, "in this new take, Marian picks up the cause to lead her people into a pivotal war after the love of her life, Robin Hood, dies. She comes to power, charging into a battle that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom, but also see her don the mantle of the man she loved."

The movie will be produced by Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment. The company are also working on Gotham City Sirens, the DC spinoff focusing on Harley Quinn, her Suicide Squad character.

The story of Robin Hood has been told numerous times in film, but this is the first time that a movie will focus on Maid Marian. The character will played by Eve Hewson in Robin Hood: Origins, which is set for a March 2018 release.
