Alessandro Bertolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini, and Christopher Nelson accepted the award. This was the first award for each of them. Bertolazzi, who is Italian, dedicated the award to all immigrants during his speech.

While the film wasn't a huge hit with mass audiences or critics, only scoring a 40 on GameSpot sister-site Metacritic, it did win over many people with the practical makeup on characters like Killer Croc, Enchantress, Harley Quinn, and El Diablo. It was one of the few things the film did exceptionally well, and now, they have an Oscar to prove it.

From the start, the film had a troublesome production. However, Suicide Squad broke some box office records, including making more than $200 million over a weekend in August.
