Subscription plans now available on Steam
Half-Life developer's online marketplace now allows users to sign up for subscription plans; first supported title is MMO Darkfall Unholy Wars.
Beginning today, Steam will offer subscription plans, Half-Life and Portal developer Valve has announced. The first supported title is Darkfall Unholy Wars, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game from Aventurine S.A.
A subscription for Darkfall Unholy Wars is $14.95 per month. Additional subscription-based games will follow, though none of these were announced.
Steam users can now sign up for, manage, cancel, or renew subscription plans through the platform. Currently, Valve is not allowing users to gift a subscription plan to another user.
Additional information about Steam subscription plans is available through a Steam FAQ.
Subscription-based games like Eve Online were available through Steam prior to today. What is new is the ability to manage subscription plans through the service.
[CORRECTION] An earlier version of this story did not mention that some subscription-based games were already available through Steam. GameSpot regrets the error.
