Star Wars: 1313 'business as usual' for LucasArts

Studio says Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm has not affected the development of the third-person action adventure franchise set in the Star Wars universe.

Today's announcement that Disney has purchased Star Wars studio Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion will reportedly not affect the upcoming video game title Star Wars: 1313, which is currently in development at LucasArts.

Star Wars 1313 still on track, says LucasArts.

According to a statement from LucasArts (as first reported by IGN), it's "business as usual" for all internal projects at the studio.

The acquisition deal--which will see Disney release a new Star Wars film every two to three years after bringing out Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015--was discussed by Disney chief executive Robert Iger during a conference call earlier this week.

In the call, Iger spoke about Disney's plans to utilise the Star Wars license for games, revealing the that company will focus on social and mobile games internally, and rely on licensing deals to allow third-party developers to create Star Wars titles for consoles.

Star Wars: 1313 was first announced in May this year. The internally developed third-person action adventure game will see players take on the role of a bounty hunter navigating a subterranean metropolis, Level 1313, beneath the surface of the planet Coruscant.

At the time of its announcement, LucasArts had revealed that the game was being developed with the help of artists across the Lucasfilm organisation, including LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation Ltd, and Skywalker Sound. The game will be based on the Unreal engine and feature full-body performance capture.

According to LucasArts, the game will emphasise fast-paced combat, and the game's hero will use human skills and gadgets, rather than supernatural Force powers. In addition, the game will feature a combination of cover-based combat, platforming, and "playable cinematic gameplay."

buisness as usual untill they change development at the mid-point range and change it to xbox or playstation exclusive and screw over the pc development of this game, which was what the game was running on at E3.

Business as usual until the game is finished and Disney decide, 'We've had a great idea: We're shutting you down.'

Star Wars Battlefront 3 combined with Star Wars Empire at War 2. Gives you two perspectives of the Battlefield. Including most epic timelines: The Old Republic Wars, Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War, and what ever is planned next. And every planet in the Star Wars Galaxy!

Here's to the assimilation of a lackluster production company. Star Wars is passe and outdated by current standards; Frankly, what stood as futuristic or glossy in the 1970s is well out of place in the modern world despite rehashings and some shiny effects.

Good riddance :)

Knights of the Old Republic 3!!! And another Jedi Knight!!! No more crap Kinect SW games!!!

This is the first I've heard of an Episode 7 in any confirmable format.

Even for billions, I can't imagine Lucas selling his...his CHILD...to anybody.  I can only hope some great Star Wars games (and movies, etc.) come out of this (hopefully PC games, hint hint).

I can't believe what I am reading... George Lucas sold his rights to Disney... with all the Empire he built himself! The good point is that he will finally stop messing with the original trilogy! I can't wait to see those Episodes 7-8-9!!

All I keep hearing in my head is a faint voice that keeps gently repeating, "For now...... For now...... For now......"

No touch, Disney!! No touch.

With this and Angry Birds, at what point does George Lucas make so much money that he loses all physical form and ascends into the cosmos as a beam of pure energy?

I just realized, that after Disney bought Marvel (and now Lucas), Disney now owns the lives of every Nerd in the world... scary

Looking forward to this game, i just hope disney doesn't put their silly childish logo on this game's cover. Their childish logo ruins pretty much every adult content produced by disney, from movies to gaming.

Now Star Wars and Indiana Jones can be in the Kingdom Hearts series!             (Darth Vader  kidnaps Cinderella, Snow white and Kairi. Sora, Donald Duck, Goofy helps Luke Skywalker and learns from Yoda how to use the Force. The Death Star blows up Sora's Homeworld. Sora seeks revenge and is tempted to join the Dark Side) An extreme alternate version of Star Wars

Hopefully 'business as usual' doesnt mean releasing underwhelming bombs. Im slightly excited to hear theyre planning a new movie.. but one every 2 to 3 years is just dumb.

Disney, please make a deal with http://GOG.com and release all LucasArts gems like Maniac Mansion, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, X-Wing, TIE Fighter and many others. Please...

What's this? no Star Wars Battlefront 3 or TIE Fighter revival news? Sorry, Disney, you'll have to do better than that...

From Wikipedia:

Former subsidiaries: Pixar Animation Studios - computer animation film production company (sold to Steve Jobs in 1986, and is now a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company).

The Circle is complete, now I (Walt Disney) am the master! Lol, it all makes sense for Disney to buy Lucasfilm, what with Episode 1 being very kid friendly (not just all-ages friendly like the original trilogy) and Star Wars: Kinect pandering even more towards that group.

Luckily, Star Wars 1313 seems like a Republic Commando-type game (i.e. no Jedi protagonist) that is marketed towards a bit more mature audience.

I been so busy I had no idea that Disney buyout Lucasfilm but I'm cool with it as long as Star Wars stays good in terms of games and Movies to say the lease. Disney did good with Marvel Studios with good Marvel Movies and I have no doult that LF will be in good hands. As for another SW Movie, I would like to see the very begining of the Republic and the Jedi order if done right.

One can wonder if SW The Clone Wars that's airing on Cartoon Network will be effected by this.

A movie every 2-3 years? Now that's pushing it, if episode 7 is total trash I'm not seeing another Star Wars movie. I mean at this point they're just milking it and it's a sad picture. The first 3 movies were brilliant, I meant episodes 4-6, I'm only 18 but hell I was raised on the remastered movies. To make more isn't  necessarily a bad thing it's as I said pushing it.

Interesting. So far Disney has done great many things with the studios they owned. (eg:-Avengers) I love to see what they got in store for Star Wars.

Oh here we go! One last message from Lucas saying screw you adults Star Wars is for kids. I've always wanted to see the horrors that the Sith were capable of but Lucas would always hold it back. I guess Alderon will be the last mass genocide I'll ever see now that Disney has control.

I'd love to see some new Star Wars films.  With good writers and a solid SW universe already established, we could see some great stuff.

I'm also looking forward to Star Wars 1313.  Trailers looked great.  Glad it won't be impacted.

Jeez I sure hope not or else I'll just try and forget about this game now.

I have high hopes for what Disney can do with Star Wars.

Aren't there enough novels, comics, and games that pretty much cover everything that happened after the fall of the Empire?

then it's gonna be just like SW TFU 2 .. that is too disappointing again !

"cover-based combat, platforming, and "playable cinematic gameplay." So my worst fears have just been confirmed, its Uncharted in space. Uncharted 3 was a HORRIBLE GAME. This means 1313 will be plagued with QTE's as well. "sigh". Now I am more excited about the new movies that this game.

Well Disney can't do much worse than Lucas himself has done to the Star Wars franchise in recent years. As far as I'm concerned, it ended after the first three classic films.

TrueGB

Hard to say how this will turn out. On the one hand, Disney is evil enough to demand companies roll out the great Star Wars games like Battlefront and KotoR 3 without a thought. They love their money grubbing sequels. On the other hand, they use Pixar as a crutch, and that may not last much longer given how that studio is bleeding talent in Disney's mad quest to force them to make endless sequels, and outside of that studio they pretty much stink. It would be cool seeing the original crew in a new trilogy, but given how much Harrison Ford stunk in the new Indiana Jones movie, I don't think that will work this time around.

They should just do something entirely new.

Business as usual?

Well, then expect to get laid off after the game ships. Look at the previous "Business" in older Star Wars games.
