Squad Assault: Second Wave, a PC real-time strategy game set in World War II, has gone gold and will hit North American shelves September 3, according to copublishers Got Game Entertainment and Merscom.

Second Wave is billed as an updated and enhanced version of 2003's Squad Assault: West Front, and it includes that entire game, along with new campaigns, battles, and modder-made maps.

Created by Eric Young, designer of the Close Combat and V for Victory series of games, Squad Assault emphasizes small unit tactics with psychological makeups for individual soldiers. For example, troops won't always take suicidal orders with a smile, and they won't always keep it together when the squad around them is mowed down by enemy fire.

Squad Assault: Second Wave is rated T for Teen and will retail for $29.99. For more information, check out GameSpot's review of the original Squad Assault: West Front.
