THQ and Eurocom have today released new gameplay information pertaining to Sphinx, an adventure game set in an entirely original universe that bears more than a passing resemblance to ancient Egypt. Players will assume the titular role of Sphinx, an adventurer who, along with his sidekick, the Mummy, must travel the world via magic portals to foil the evil plans of Set.

Although Sphinx will primarily be an adventure game, players will find themselves engaged in combat with more than 50 different types of enemies as they explore the five huge worlds that are featured in the game. The adventurer Sphinx will be armed with an array of different weapons, including a magical blade, capture beetles, possession spells, and various types of darts. Complementing his intriguing arsenal, Sphinx will learn up to 15 new abilities as players progress through the game, although specific details on these have not been released at this time.

Both the PlayStation 2 and GameCube versions of Sphinx are scheduled for release in the fall. We'll bring you more information on the game as it becomes available.
