Sony's Network Console In 2001

Sony plans to release a new line of audio-visual components that will link all its hardware, including the PlayStation2.

Nikkei Online reports that Sony is currently developing a new line of network capable audiovisual components that can be controlled through a television set. These include digital television models, digital VCRs, DVD players, audio components, and most importantly for gamers, the PlayStation2. These will also have network capabilities that let users access the Internet for online shopping and technical support.

Sony plans to release these new audiovisual components in 2001. Meanwhile, Sony's next-generation video-game console, the PlayStation2, is scheduled for release on March 4, 2000. It will be interesting to see what plans lie ahead with the PlayStation2 linked to other Sony hardware. Stay tuned.
