Sony gets the San Francisco 49ers off the field and into head-to-head Gran Turismo competition.

Sony Computer Entertainment teamed up with the 49ers Foundation as sponsor for the foundation's "In The Pocket" fundraiser last night. The event was held at the Great Entertainer pool hall in San Francisco, Calif., and was filled with 49ers from the past and present.

Strangely missing from Sony's demo kiosks was anything resembling football. Games playable at the event were MediEvil, Gran Turismo, Spyro, and Crash Bandicoot III.

In a room seething with competition, Sony held a Gran Turismo tournament in which current 49ers such as Jim Druckenmiller, Reggie Roby, J.J. Stokes, Lee Woodal, Derrick Deese, Chuck Levy, Terrell Owens, and Lance Schulters put down the pigskin, grabbed a Dual Shock controller, and went head-to-head. And just like other gamers, the football players yelled, screamed, and smacked each other around to win. No one was sidelined, and the guys kept their cool.

In the championship heat, defensive tackle Junior Bryant took the stage against defensive back Darnell Walker. After the final lap, Walker took the crown as Gran Turismo king. Walker won a new PlayStation and several games that Sony donated in his name to his favorite charity. All of the proceeds from the evening went to various Bay Area charities like the Boys and Girls Club and Caring for Kids.
