Sony Gives PlayStation Boost

TOKYO - Polyphony Digital's latest PlayStation game, Omega Boost, gets set to take the galaxy on full throttle.

TOKYO - Sony finally blew the doors off their new PlayStation space shooter, Omega Boost. Developed in secret for some time now by Polyphony Digital, makers of Gran Turismo, Omega Boost puts you in control of a massive robot for quick shooting action. Along with full 360' freedom of movement, the short Omega Boost demo Sony handed out and had playable at the show featured a wide assortment of different enemies, including small one-shot spaceships, a giant satellite, and enemy 'boss' robot.

Controls are simple to keep the emphasis on reflex-driven arcade action - one analog stick and L1 to move your ship around at any angle or in straight directions, a turbo button, and shoot (rapid fire or hold to lock on). After completing a stage, players can even watch a replay of their performance from different camera angles.

As you might expect from the developers of Gran Turismo, the graphics in Omega Boost are amazing and, most impressively, blindingly fast. All the crazed gunfire, tracking lasers and swarming enemies resembles an action packed anime movie, but doesn't slow down on Sony's machine one bit. With only one short section playable it's hard to get a feel for the overall game, but so far, so good. Omega Boost will be out in Japan April 22nd.
