Sony auctioning items from PS4 Greatness Awaits trailer

New Bid for Greatness auction allows players to use gold trophies to bid on costumes and props from the recent E3 commercial; Killzone: Shadow Fall costume up for bidding today.

Sony today launched a new auction promotion that will allow gamers to bid on the costumes, props, and weapons featured in the PlayStation 4's "Greatness Awaits" trailer from E3.

Fans can bid on 15 total items at the Bid for Greatness website by using the gold trophies they have accrued. Trophies will remain associated to a player's account following the bidding process, whether they win or not.

A new item will be up for bidding for only 24 hours beginning today and running through July 30. New items will appear every day at 1 p.m. PDT.

Today's item (pictured) is the Black Hand outfit from Killzone: Shadow Fall. It is a one-piece jumpsuit that features multiple accessories and is designed to fit a 6-foot man. The leading bid at press time is 540 trophies.

Upcoming auction items include an infected Clicker costume from The Last of Us, a Dragonborn dagger from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Witch Doctor mojo from Diablo III, and a Captain Kenway outfit from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, among others.

For more on the new auction, check out the video below.

Sony getting smarter by the second! Now I want to get trophies and I'll buy more games to do it. Keep up the great work!

Meanwhile on the xbox you can use their reward system to get a cool pair of sunglasses for your XBL avatar! Yeah who needs a real life skyrim sword, a costume, or a diablo 3 staff when you can put sunglasses on your avatar!

That was sarcasm by the way because the XBL rewards system is a joke. Oh but you get like .25 cents a year in XBL points on your birthday......

This is actually a pretty stellar promo idea. Not that I have anywhere near enough trophies to warrant even trying (seriously, who the fuck has 540 gold trophies?), but an auction based on in-game unlocks is pretty cool. It's probably a one-off ps4 promo thing, but I kind of hope this is the beginning of some sort of meta-rewards strategy for the psn

To everyone complaining : If they were selling them for money, you wouldn't be able to afford them either, so stop complaining. They're basically giving items for free to the people who invested the most time on PS games. Go enjoy your life, you don't need that stuff anyways.

Wow so let me get this straight Sony's giving away real world items from the there greatness awaits commercial for fake digital Gold trophies? Holly crap that just increased the worth of PlayStation trophies by 100% and effectivly put them above MS Achievements(at least for as long as this promotion last afterwards they'll both be back on the same level of worhtless).

It would be kind of funny if hackers hack their accounts to get all of the possible trophies or something.  I wonder how secure trophies and achievements even are, probably not very in today's world.

the gamer with the highest gold trophy can win all of the items in the auction easily, just spend all of your gold trophy in one bid

Damn its only open to people in the US. Why no love for Canadians?

veryDERPY

looked into it and there's about 800 games for the ps3 not counting the store. unless you bought EVERY ONE of em there's no way to get 900 gold.

tho if you import a different version you get trophies for that game again. maybe they have better jobs then you'd like to believe? jelly?

in other words, lvl 17 chumps like me stand no chance. how bout a raffle?

aidsta

Now how about they round up ALL the gold trophies in ALL games, and then pick a random one. Then all the people who have that one trophy get the chance to bid.

themc_7

wow current bid on first item is 975 gold trophies.

burningspoonman

cool idea, but as many have already said, the average gamer will not be able to win any of these prizes.  too bad it couldn't be a kind of raffle or lottery where every entry would have at least a small chance of winning, and those with more trophies / entries would have a greater chance of winning.  I like that they're getting creative though.

US PSN account only :-(

Although my 'measly' 275 gold trophies wouldn't get me even close it would seem!

So trophy hunters like hakoom automatically win

ragnarockw
ragnarockw

Sounds good if they were to add in game items that would help rather than just look good but as someone already stated only the top trophy hunters would stand any chance like Duck, Hakoom, Hutchy007 and the like no one else would even come close.

A better idea would be to put some kind of restriction in like max bid 700 in a week from one account something like that.

This brings a whole new meaning to Trophy Hunter.

tom_cat_01
tom_cat_01

meh. This is essentially closed-off to anyone but the most hardcore trophy collectors/farmers. My measly 40 golds or whatever will never stand a chance of winning, anything.

Weird.

damn i wish MS did something like this over there i would probably be able to bid i have close to 250,000 pts , but on my ps3 i only have like 800 trophies but only 16 are gold

XeonForce
XeonForce

Sounds like a great idea on paper, but since trophies have no currency value outside of this auction, this bidding war will simply be won by the ten people with the most trophies. It's still a neat idea to reward the players with the most trophies though.

540 trophies?? I won't be able to achieve that even with 6 years of time in my hand..

The winner must be one hardcore sad virgin.

Do people really buy shit like that? I mean being a nerd it looks cool IN THE VIDEO, but I don't want to own any of it.

I have completed lots of games but don't have many trophies in the grand scheme of things. I aim to play the game and play the game well not trophies hunt and play a post apocalyptic world where I find myself re visiting a level just to find a comic book to get another trophies

So, I guess whoever spends way too much time gaming is going to find him (or her, I suppose) with a lot of random props?

Toysoldier34
Toysoldier34

This applies to such a small group of people and can only really be used by the people that play games only for trophies not for actual games.

Hopefully this is some kind of test and they can make something similar that the other 99% of PSN users can enjoy.

It's only good for USA.... Ridiculous!

@veryDERPY except each game was many gold trophies to get. Not just 1 like platinums

Evilbunz

@aidsta how about you invest more time on their console.... they want people who actually played a shit ton of their ps3 and bought tons of games for it to get the prizes. Makes sense.... giving back to loyal customers, not one time "buy last of us" and never touch it again people.

AzulSoul
AzulSoul

@aidsta Yes, i was thinking something like that, with the current system just the "no life" gamers can get the goodies.

EL_Bomberdor
EL_Bomberdor

@burningspoonman

Even if it only took 1 trophy what would your odds be of winning?. I believe this is very fair and those trophy hollicks deserve to be rewarded with more than just trophies.

Gloridel
Gloridel

Yes this!  Each gold trophy maybe buys you one ticket in a raffle, then we'd all have a chance at least!

Anyway, I like this idea regardless, I'm sure they'll develop it in the future...

deadkingdg

@Gloridel I love your use of 'measly'. I do try to get as much trophies as I can (in the games I like, I wouldn't play a boring games just to get trophies), yet I have about 140 gold trophies. 275 is impressive!

@wasakawaka Yeah because this is USA and its in USA. Its kind of like how other countries have contests of their own for their own. Yeah.

CyberLips

@wasakawaka I know right? Pretty much every contest out there is only for the US. :/

Ovirew

@AzulSoul  I think it would be more fair if people who bought a game associated with each item they're giving away would be able to bid.

So say you own Assassin's Creed 3, then you can enter for a chance to win that costume.  Because there's a chance that most people don't even have an interest in all of these games and will only bid because they can.

I think involving trophies at all is kind of pointless.

Gloridel
Gloridel

Odd would be more than zero, which is what they are now, so that would be nice!

ragnarockw
ragnarockw

@Gloridel Or maybe 1 gold gets you a ticket and you can buy say a total of 10 and each ticket has a random number on it.

Gloridel

Urgh, I misread my own trophy card, should have been 215 (217 now!)
