Activision has announced Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix, its upcoming sequel to last year's popular first-person shooter. The game is currently in development at Raven Software, the studio that created the original Soldier of Fortune game. In the sequel, players will assume the role of John Mullins, the main character in the original game. As Mullins, players will have to complete a variety of missions including hostage rescues, intelligence gathering, and search-and-destroy. Most missions will be flexible enough to let players use brute force, stealth, or a combination of tactics to complete the objectives, and some missions will be inspired by the actual experiences of John Mullins, a former Special Forces officer and military consultant.

Soldier of Fortune II will add a number of improvements to the original game, including realistic damage modeling, skeletal animations, and a new terrain system that lets players ride in and fight from trucks and helicopters. The game will also include a violence lock that lets players filter out most of the mature graphics and sound in the game. For more information, take a look at our 2708913full preview of the game. Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix is scheduled for release near the end of the year.
