Sly Collection heisting Nov. 9

HD, 3D remastering of first three Sly Cooper games arrives in under two weeks on PlayStation 3 with Move support.

Back at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, Sony announced it was readying a PlayStation 3 collection of all three PlayStation 2 Sly Cooper games: Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves. Today, the game giant gave that collection a release date: November 9, less than two weeks away.

The Sly Collection will infiltrate retail November 9.

Besides having remastered HD graphics, The Sly Collection will boast 3D visuals--provided the player has a television that supports 3D. It will also support Sony's PlayStation Move motion-sensing system, which hit the US market on September 17. In addition, the collection will have full trophy support, with remastering duties of the Sucker Punch-developed originals being handled by Sanzaru Games.

In 2002, the first Sly Cooper game saw the raccoon protagonist embark on a search for the "Thievius Raccoonus," a tome containing a host of tricks and skills from his family's years of wholesale burglary. The stealth-action platforming series continued with Band of Thieves (2004), which saw Sly try to stop the reassembly of an evil mechanical foe. The trilogy wrapped with Honor Among Thieves (2005), which had the masked protagonist travel to a remote island to recover still more secrets of the thieving trade.

Just watched my first 3D movie this week and I think I'll be leaving it there. It made going to the movies exciting again so I don't want to spoil that feeling by bringing it to my home.

@Shadow4020 Halo was supposed to end with Halo 3 hence "Finish the Fight," but they then made Halo Wars which was also supposed to be the last and here we are now with Reach. If a series will sell well they will make it. Just like Mario will never die. If the developer feels that by reviving or continueing a series they ccan make more money than they would with a new game they will do it. But I'm sure Sucker Punch feels that inFamous 2 would bring in more money than Sly 4, especially since they already have the engine from the original inFamous. A new Sly game would have to be rather rebuilt from the ground up. We can hope, and this rehash may bring the signs to them to make a Sly 4. Just got to wait and see.

@noturfangirl Just like any game of any genre is a rip off of previous games? Does that make all FPS games a rip off or Doom? Or is Blur a rip off of Mario Kart? I assume then that Jak and Daxter is also a rip off of Mario 64? Every game will borrow elements of games that have already been made, thats what makes it a genre. Just like Music, you could say any artist that released a song this year ripped off some other artis of the genre that put out their album 5 years ago.

@mattg90520 @squidracerX To build on what he said. Every new technology is slow and takes a push or it fails. Just like when they introduced DVDs or Bluray. When Bluray first came out the players were in the $1,000 range which seems rediculous when they are now only a couple hundred, the PS3 on being $300. 3D TVs are expensive but will rapidly go down in price if people support them, if consumers as a whole take the brunt of things now we will be rewarded later with 3D TVs costing what their size equivilent costs now. So say a TV is 1,000 and a 3D of same size is 3,000. Soon there won't be a huge differance and eventually all TVs will be 3D as the new standard. But also keep in mind that the standard 3D of the future which could be even 5-8 years off would be much differant than the 3D we know now. Just as the 3D we know now is much better than the 3D even 4 years ago. Avatar whether people like the movie or not did very well and gave 3D the push it needed and Sony is just keeping the momentum rolling.

This looks good and last I heard it was $40, so $13 for each game is reasonable with the HD remake and trophy support. I wonder how well all the Move controls work, well once I get some more money I will have to get this.

I was at Sucker Punch's panel at PAX and they mentioned that this would be happening (although they didn't give us a real release date at the time). During the Q&A someone asked for Sly 4 and the guys from sucker punch implied that it isn't ever going to happen, but they did it in a really awkward, weird way that seemed to sort of kind of keep some possibility of it at some point beyond the foreseeable future.

@mattg90520 said - "I dont understand Sony putting so much emphasis on 3d." I know it seems weird at first since its such a limited market for these expensive TVs. But I can 100% explain why Sony is into 3D support for the PS3: Sony makes TVs. Sony produces 3D movies. Sony makes a LOT of stuff besides PS3. They will make lots of money if 3D TVs get popular, and 3D movies are HUGE right now, (which they also make). So they make these movies and TVs and want to have something for the people who buy these TVs to use on it, (and while they are at it - a few thousand extra sales to PS3 owners who want to use the new feature isn't bad either). If you watch 30 Rock you will see Jack jokingly talk about this word a lot: "synergy". Different parts of your company working together to boost sales. That's why they want Sony Ericson and the PSP to work together, each is "weak" on its own, but if done right and combined they could rival Apple with the new device. Synergy. (In fact without phone support i think the PSP doesn't stand a real chance this next handheld generation). So the PS3 will sell TVs, the TVs will sell PS3s. Plus from a gaming perspective its a new technology and gimmick that might catch on some day, same reason the 3DS coming to market ya know?

Hmm Amazon lists it as November 16th, and a Kmart rep has also said it will not be in until the week of the 16th.

I'm excited since I never got to play these games before. I hope the move is really good and not just added in. I will wait for the reviews first to be sure, but it looks great!

I like Sly and all, but I'd rather have LittleBigPlanet 2 or Gran Turismo 5. Three old platformers just isn't going to cut it. My PS3 is collecting dust right now.

I dont understand Sony putting so much emphasis on 3d. I think i read the statistic that in 5 years, about 5% or less of people will be enabled. seems like wasted time to me
