Shadows of the Damned sequel a possibility

Despite disappointing sales for the original, Grasshopper's Akira Yamaoka says he's thinking of a second installment, believes Electronic Arts would be interested.

by

Garcia F****** Hotspur may ride once again, as Grasshopper Manufacture is considering a sequel to its Shadows of the Damned. Despite disappointing sales for last year's action thriller, Grasshopper composer Akira Yamaoka told Eurogamer that he has been contemplating a follow-up.

So would this be Foreshadowing of the Damned?

"I'm thinking of a sequel, actually," Yamaoka told the site. "I can't tell you here, but clearly I'd like to."

Yamaoka went on to say that Electronic Arts would "probably" be interested in working with Grasshopper again to release a hypothetical sequel. The publisher handled the original game through its EA Partners program.

Released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Shadows of the Damned tells the story of Garcia Hotspur, who goes on a trip to hell to save his true love, Paula. His traveling companion on the long, hard road through hell is a foul-mouthed demonic skull named Johnson that can morph into a variety of guns, but is also effective as a torch.

Picked this up for 10 bucks: had a blast.

Please, more of this!

The only reason this game sold poorly was due to the lack of advertising. I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem while going through my amazon recommendations one day. The thought of a longer, better advertised sequel is an exhilarating concept.

Still on my playing list. Didn't played it but haven't found a single person (among my friends online & real life) who played it and hated it. Everyone seemed to love it and were sad because of few sales. It's same as what happened with first dead space

Vulgar aberration of a game! No thanks.

I wouldn't blame anyone for not making a sequel, the original didn't even sell a million copies. So for someone to pick it up that shows either a lot of balls or a lot of stupidity. Either way, if its good I hope it sells, if its bad I hope it doesn't.

Awesome! SotD was definately the most overlooked game of 2011, and its a shame it was so. Hopefully they plan a better release schedule for the sequel, as the middle of june is just a bad time to release a new game.

See, this makes me happy. What makes me sad is that crapgames gets all the sales just because they were hyphed up more to appeal to the sheep crowd, while gaming gems like SoTD only have sequels as a "possibility". Shameful, really.

That's very nice, I loved the first one, and I was sad to see such low sales. Again, this would be a day one purchase, like the original.

If they make a sequel, it needs to have a New Game +. With all the upgrades in the original, it was kind of sad to not see a New Game + at the end.

I like to hear new IP's getting a second shot. We have enough Call of Fantasy XXIV titles out there. That said, this reminds me I have to pick up this title. Oops.

Amazing game but I'm not sure if I want a sequel. I'd of course play it but I'm not sure how great another game in this universe would be.

Shadow of the Damned could have been a much better game(its still good but imagine how it could have been) without EA's interference on the creative progress in the game. EA publisher for a sequel? Please no...

Yes please. This time, I hope they include a new game+ option, and up the difficulty a little bit. Otherwise, I loved Shadows of the Damned.

@megakick Well to me, I think it's unique because the characters are complete badasses, and the story is kind of similar to Dante's Inferno and The Darkness 2: rescuing their beloved girlfriend/wife, and having some corrupted ending to it. That's just my thoughts on it though.

Though the game didn't turn out as good as I hoped (it's still good though!), I wouldn't mind a sequel though.

Sweet! This just means that there really is still room for games that don't fit into the cookie-cutter molds that seem to be taking over the industry.

This was the only game I truly hated last year. I'm sure a sequel would suck just as much. Please don't make it.

Nice. Let's hope they keep a lot of what made the first one so much fun (and mature). I just hope they don't use those crying door things again though, they annoyed the snot out of me.

It was a great game but it was kinda empty after you finish the game. Could have been better with extra unlockable contents and somewhat new game+ feature. It is a shame the sales were poor like Okami and God Hand.
