Shadowrun Returns Berlin DLC delayed

Shadowrun Returns' Berlin DLC will ship three months later than expected so that it can be turned into a fully-fledged expansion.

Shadowrun Returns' Berlin DLC add-on has been delayed until 2014 so that it can be turned into a fully-fledged expansion, developer Harebrained Schemes has announced on Kickstarter.

The Berlin content was originally intended to ship in October. "However, after listening to your forum discussions and feedback, it became clear that you would like to see something bigger (and so would we)," said Harebrained Schemes.

"So, we've decided to spend more time on Berlin to create an experience closer to the size of Dead Man’s Switch," the game's current campaign, set in Seattle.

Harebrained Schemes says it is in the early stages of development for the Berlin expansion, but that the team is looking to create a more flexible story arc than in Dead Man's Switch, alongside NPC characters with more depth, more magical creatures, and improved gameplay for the Physical Adept class.

"We want our next story to feel more like the player is part of a shadowrunning crew and contain more corporate intrigue," added the developer.

The Berlin expansion will also contain new assets for the community to use in their own content.

This game is awesome and needs to inspire a fully funded sequel or some way to incorporate a multiplayer w/ one acting as a GM experience.  This should serves as a model for other gameworlds as well and would work excellently with D&D, Darksun, Planescape, Call of Cthulhu, and pretty much any other table top game you can imagine.

Im, only about an hour into this game, but I like it so far! With steam workshop integration, I think this game has great things in the future.

Nice! I liked the game, even the odd issues (mostly the save game thing since it not being open world didn't bother me since I don't think that was ever promised) weren't enough to ruin my enjoyment of the game.

In saying that though, one hopes they will step it up a bit since by then the mod community will probably be putting out campaigns that are just as, if not better, for free. I will still buy Berlin but for a lot of people it is hard to compete with free.

The main problem with Shadowrun returns is the fact that the game feels llke such a linear experience for an RPG.

It screams out for side quests and the option to openly explore the world.  The artwork and style is fantastic but feels like a letdown when you realize how little of it you actually get to explore or interact with.

But hey the devs charged 20 bucks so they got my money.  I can't expect a very large open world that price but it would be nice to see at least a few sidequests that do some more world building.

make it longer, you barely develop your char and have practically no time to enjoy it before the game ends, the game is just too short to make use of its rpg elements properly, especially charisma and its etiquettes.

I was hoping Berlin would have been bigger than DMS. After all it was only 10 hours ( 10 Hours for a RPG is not very good )

That's good. There's already some good player created content up as a demo and being created. The developers even did a lets play of one of them and said he had come up with some interesting ideas that they didn't think of.

If they improve on the actual game, when they say they will make gameplay of adepts better,  it should also help other people creating content.

This is only but good news. I will take a full fledged expansion over a couple of hours of DLC any day of the week.

Really enjoyed SRR so I'm looking forward to this "expansion" now.

Is this the same as Shadowrun that was made by Chair and Epic on XBl?

I really hope they open the world up, akin the the SNES Shadowrun. The way Returns plays - on rails - one screen, one act at a time really sucks.

Good move.

Shame the game was dumbed down for mobile, but it's still a good game.

WTF??? Why would they just not release a 10 dollar 1 hour long DLC.  This is a huge set back in the world of gaming.  DLC FTW!!!!  /sarcasm off.

@sgt_F79 Based on the same pen and paper RPG, but entirely different games by different developers.
