Sega today made its annual E3 Sonic announcements today. Sonic the Hedgehog has been one of Sega's most popular icons, and his popularity and longevity have both lasted since the early 1990s, when he debuted on the Sega Genesis.

Sonic strides onto the Nintendo DS for the first time in Sonic Rush. Previously untitled, the game will deliver the frantic action on both of the unit's screens, with near-vertical curves and large jumps. Joining Sonic will be Blaze the Cat, a new character to the Sonic franchise. The pair will journey to grab all the Sol Emeralds, which are dangerous if in the wrong hands.

Look for Sonic Rush this summer. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's E3 2005 Hands-On from today.

Sonic Gems Collection brings several classic games to the GameCube. The compilation includes Sonic CD, Sonic Championship, Sonic R, and six Sonic Game Gear titles. Sega also promises some extra features. No release date was given for the game.

The final new Sonic offering is a blast from the past for people on the go. Sonic the Hedgehog, the game that started the craze, is being ported to mobile phones. The game will be bundled with Panasonic Mobile Communications' new line of GSM mobile phones. Mobile gamers will be able to call on Sonic sometime this summer. In the meantime, roll over to GameSpot's E3 2005 Hands-On of the game.
