Today, developer Deck13 (Lords of the Fallen) shared the first official images of its upcoming PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC game The Surge, which was announced last year. The images showcases the game's main character, who is seen here wearing some kind of beefy exosuit. The two images are below.

Note that the image of The Surge's main character (above) is a "render artwork," while the second picture is an actual game screenshot.

"Set on a dystopian Earth nearing the end of its life, The Surge offers a grim vision of our future," reads a line from the game's description. "Accelerating advancements in technology and our abuse of the environment has led to an overly decadent civilization that now lies on the brink of collapse."

Official gameplay details on The Surge remain light, but Deck13 says the game will offer "innovative combat mechanics" as well as a "unique character progression system."

The exoskeleton showcased in the render artwork operates as a "base to upgrade your equipment," Deck13 said in a release.

"When fighting enemies, you can target specific parts or limbs to recover specific pieces of armor, weapons, or equipment you want to attach to your own exoskeleton," a line from the description said. "Of course, the best parts will often be the hardest to cut off--and they'll usually be attached to the most dangerous enemies! Even the most common enemies can prove deadly, and the game features imposing bosses who will truly put your wits, guts and reflexes to the test."

More details on The Surge will be shared in the months ahead. The game is due out in 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will be published by Farming Simulator company Focus Home Interactive.

In other news about Deck13, it was confirmed last year that the German studio will not be involved in the upcoming Lords of the Fallen sequel.
