Scream Star Melissa Barrera Wants To Be In Scary Movie 6

After an 11-year hiatus, there's another installment of Scary Movie in the works. And if Paramount is looking for a new lead actress, former Scream star Melissa Barrera is open for the chance to star in Scary Movie 6 and spoof her former franchise.

"I always loved those movies," said Barrera when asked about the possibility of jumping franchises by Inverse. "When I saw it announced, I was like, 'Oh, that would be fun. That would be so fun to do.'"

The original cast of the Scary Movie franchise included Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans, and Shawn Wayans. However, it's unclear if any of them will return for Scary Movie 6. But if the next sequel follows the example set by 2022's Scream and Scream 6, it could pair up any returning cast members with the next generation.

"They have the iconic cast that did it, so we’ll see what goes on with that." added Barrera. "I'm just excited to see a new one."

Barrera had been set to star in Scream 7 until she was fired from the film by Spyglass in November 2023 over her social media comments on the Israel/Palestine war. Jenna Ortega had previously pulled out of Scream 7 over scheduling issues, which paved the way for the original Scream star, Neve Campbell, to return to the franchise.

Neither Scream 7 nor Scary Movie 6 have release dates yet, but both are likely to arrive in 2025.
