"You could really uncover the identity of who this person is, where she comes from, and where she's part of."

Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow in the Avengers series, would like to see her character get a standalone Marvel movie--and she has some ideas.

In an interview with Variety, Johansson said she would like for a Black Widow movie to happen "under the right circumstances." She didn't fully elaborate on what those would be, but she said time may not be on her side. "If I did it, I'd have to do it while I still actually wanted to wear a skin-tight catsuit," she explained. "I don't know how much longer that's going to be."

As for her ideas for a standalone Black Widow movie, Johansson said the character has a "really rich" origin story that has plenty of opportunities for storytelling.

"You can bring it back to Russia. You could explore the Widow program," she said. "There's all kinds of stuff that you could do with it. You could really uncover the identity of who this person is, where she comes from, and where she's part of."

A prequel is a possibility, Johansson said, or it could be "something else." Whatever the case, a standalone Black Widow movie would need to have "its own specific vibe," the actress said.

"Where do the Avengers go? They are underground. What happens then? What happens after it all falls apart? There are so many ways you can go," she explained. "I think it would just have to be very much like its own specific thing. It would have to have its own specific vibe. It would have been totally different than any of the other standalone films. I think if the fans wanted it enough, then it would probably become a reality."

Johansson said she talks to Marvel about a standalone Black Widow movie "often," adding that both she and the film company are "greatly invested" in the character. Despite this, and the fact that Marvel president Kevin Feige is also interested in making a Black Widow movie, no standalone film has been announced.

Johansson played Black Widow most recently in this year's Captain America: Civil War. While not confirmed, she could play the role again in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War.
