Sam & Max Wii-bound?

What we heard: Even before it was released, Telltale Games had its eyes on the Wii. In September 2006--two months before the console debuted in North America--the independent developer asked fans to e-mail Nintendo expressing interest in a Wii edition of its episodic revival of the Sam & Max adventure series.

According to a post on Telltale's blog, the effort paid off. Within hours, Nintendo apparently called Telltale to talk about the possibility of Sam & Max coming to the Wii. The developer then publicly urged the flood of e-mails to stop--and then quickly clammed up about any efforts to bring the wise-crackin' crime-fighting duo to platforms beyond the PC. When job listings for Wii and Xbox 360 programmers appeared on Telltale's site in early 2007, they begat rumors of Sam & Max outings on both platforms...until the developer revealed that it was porting CSI: Hard Evidence to the consoles.

Over the weekend, though, the prospect of a Wii Sam & Max was raised again, courtesy of the aforementioned press release. Tucked inside an announcement saying JoWood would publish the Wii version of Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None was news that "JoWood plans to adapt further successful adventure-game licenses for the Nintendo Wii." The company went on to say that "One of the next projects [is] Sam & Max. Already named Adventure [game] of the year by readers of the German computer-game magazine PC Games (as seen the February 2008 issue), Sam & Max will also soon be hunting criminals on the Nintendo Wii."

The official story: Unfortunately, no further details about the Wii version of Sam & Max were revealed in the JoWood release, and neither JoWood nor Telltale would comment on JoWood's own press release. Presumably, though, JoWood would be publishing a Telltale-developed version of the game in Europe, as it does for several other developers. Details on the game's North American plans--including a US publisher and release date--remain unknown.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that a Sam & Max Wii port is planned. JoWood wouldn't simply pull such a project out of thin air, and the low-graphics, point-and-click adventure title would work well on the console. However, until more details are known, its release is far from assured.

hopefully it wont be a port of season one like i have been hearing, only because i just recently bought and finished the pc verison. hopefully it will be a whole new animal, or maybe it could have both seasons one and two (dont know if two is finished yet though) while telltale is at it they should do a ds sam and max, heck even a plain old remake of hit the road on ds would rock

What happened to LucasArts? I thought this was their franchise. Anyhow, would be an awesome title on the Wii.

I'm not a fan of the Sam and Max series. I'll pass.

Sweet! The Wii is prefectly suited for point and click adventures. It would be cool to see a group packaging of some of the older gems as well (I'm looking at you SCUMM). This also is an example of yet another third party developer coming to the Wii and doing solid titles that really make the system stand out. I can't see how anyone can badmouth the Wii when news like this gets circulated.

Zack and Wiki proved point and click can work on the Wii. I've been wishing for this direction since day 1 :D

Sam and Max would be perfect for Wii's point and click controls. Those of you who haven't heard of Sam and Max, should definitely check it out. Its great humor.

I supose it would make sense, it's the kind of humour that is pointed direcly at teenagers so that pre-teenagers wants to play it.

Use hand with broken golf ball collector, Use extendable hand with giant ball 'o' twine... Now thats game-play! We can only prey Guybrush Threepwood, Herman Toothrot and Murray the fearsome demonic talking skull can get a wii outing too!

These games definitely seem entertaining. It would be nice seeing them branch out onto something other than just the PC.

Awesome! I loved the original PC game back in the 90's.

The original Sam & Max rocked, and the new ones pick up where it left off. Hilarious games, and I would *LOVE* to see them on the Wii! LONG LIVE SAM & MAX!!!

I'm predicting Telltale will wait until after season 2 is finished to release more info about what will probably be a two-season Wii edition; perhaps including the original Sam & Max (as there would be _PLENTY_ of room available on even a single layer DVD). Also Valve has proven with the Orange Box that making available many games that have sold on other platforms, for the price of a single new video game on an alternate interface friendly platform, does sell. And in the end, that's all it's really about.

Man, that would be awesome. I loved the original sam and max and have been holding off with the new games in the hope they would be available in a more accessible format.

Although I would like to see the adventure game fanbase exapnd, especially as they are not graphically demanding I just don't see it happening do to consoles. I mean what point and click adventure game did well on a console and chose to stay there? Anyways isn't Zak & Wiki not a big sales hit on the Wii either?

I wonder what other IP Telltale games has of LucasArts. I'm pretty sure most the adventure game stuff is up for grabs. I myself would like to see Indiana Jones: Fate of Atlantas, The Dig, and Full Throttle make it to the consoles.

Outstanding if it's true. I haven't caved in and got the PC versions yet. The WII would be perfect for adventure games. While they're at it, bring Day of the Tentacle, Fate of Atlantis and Grim Fandango!!! How awesome would that be?

First SCUMM games next Sierra games. I wish they would just make new games Lucasarts and Sierra-Online did so well, but alas we'll never see those days again.

Cool news, I always wanted to try out the Sam and Max games, but never got the chance. If they put new content into the Wii versions and some interesting Wiimote usage, I'll definitely pick it up...if it's ever released that is.

Fact: The fan base isnt big enough to turn Sam & Max into a Wii game, on the flip side they may have a chance after all Nintendo will publish just about any junk that comes they're way .... for the right price of curse.

I thought they were going to be bringing this game to all of the system...at one point in time.

The first season was fantastic. If anyone reading this is curious about the series (and enjoys humor in games), go download season 1 now. You don't have to thank me, either. Anyway, I'd rather play season 2 on my big TV, so here's hoping!

"Hope nobody was on that bus...." "At least nobody we know or care about anyway." ...Sam and Max are pretty much awesome, and I'm hyped for any success any of their games make and would gladly add them to my library.

looks cool. Let's see if the regular LucasArts adventure games come to the VC

ooh! good! You would think that the whole "point and click" genre would of been done already on the Wii. I can think of a thousand point and click adventures that would be perfect for the wii :)... Well, maybe not literally a thousand, but I imagine that snatcher would make a good wii remake (or especially DS). Monkey Island Wii... or how about grim fandango! :D Heck, get all the adventure games on one wii disc... mmm

Adventure games like that belong on the Wii. Let's hope this trend will continue.

Sam & Max is a point and click adventure game, not a platformer.

Platformers do very well on the Wii, sounds like a good move.

This rumor has been going around for what seems like years now and Sam & Max still isn't any closer to being on the wii. In a way its kind of like the next Duke Nukem Forever. I would like to see it wii bound because we need more quality games than the likes of Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None. But because I already played the pc version this isn't a priority game for me and they are on the second season now.

mpchitown

I agree with jediskillz, big fan of adventure games, they seem to have been lost amongst all the fps out there. Bring on grim fandango! bring on Monkey island! I would love to try a point and click with the wiimote! Hopefully it's a sign of good things to come for nintendo.

I hope they bring over new stuff as I've already played season 1. Other than that, I'm glad for any publicity or ports they may get.
