Saints Row double feature drops Sept. 7

First two installments in Volition's open-world action series bundled on Xbox 360 for $30.

Gamers still have quite a bit of time to kill before the third installment in Volition's popular open-world action game Saints Row takes to the streets, presumably in 2012. Today, THQ announced its newest scheme to get gamers interested in the series before Saints Row 3's release, confirming that the Saints Row Double Pack will be available on September 7 for $29.99.

As its title suggests, the Saints Row Double Pack includes the original Saints Row, which saw release in 2006, and its 2008 follow-up, Saints Row 2. Because the original Saints Row was released exclusively on the Xbox 360, THQ will be making the double pack available only to owners of Microsoft's console.

Two for the price of half of one ain't bad.

The original Saints Row earned a positive critical reception upon release four years ago, in spite of (or, perhaps, because of) its unabashed homage to Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto franchise. Saints Row 2 earned an equally positive critical reception after THQ expanded the franchise's platforms to also include the PlayStation 3, though the PC version fared less well.

For the latest on the series, check out GameSpot's ongoing coverage of Saints Row 3.

@magusat999 and I like you too for liking me for mentioning postal. it is true postal is one of the best games , sadly Postal 3 doesn't seem going in the right direction while the developers busy posting babe photos on their site instead of working their butts on it.

@Fryboy101: You don't even know which announcement, interview or press release I was talking about and you didn't specify which one you were talking about either. Don't try to debunk what someone says without making it clear where you get your references - and in this case showing that you are talking about the same reference.

@gamerpipe I like you just because you mentioned Postal, one of the best, funniest and most underrated games ever!

The day they release SR 3, the world will end. which happen to be the same day Duke Nukem Forever release date will be announced. The same day Postal 3 release new gameplay trailer.

Alex_09.......GTA is infinitly more supperior to SR (any of them, even the one to come more than likley). GTA's car physics are supperior to SR. race round a corner at top speed and not lose conrol of your car? Cars in saints stay glued to the road, theres absolutly no skill needed in the vehicles in SR.Come to think of it theres no variation in different vehicles in SR at all. Each car feels like the last. In GTA you get a flat tyre or two you get a new car, SR you carry on.Sorry that might be what you consider acceptable but not me! One more thing, Mutiplayer......enough said!

To the people who have never played any of the Saints Row Series but played and Enjoyed GTA4 then you should look into this Evan though there are differences between them but, its well worth the cost believe me this bundle is worth buying

I had more fun with Saints Row 2 then GTAIV. I played the 1st Saints Row game I didn't think it was that bad but Saints Row 2 was more fun and new characters and gangs were better. I'm really looking forward to Saints Row Drive By and SR3

Great for people who might not have played both games.

Uhh... I loved... LOVED saints row(1) when it was first out... but I wouldn't buy a bundle containing that piece of crap saints row 2 for ANY amount of money x.x I wasted 19 dollars on that game... even IF I got a refund for it. T.T

I wouldn't buy either of them even if it was 1 cent (at least the PC versions)

Always fun games. Sometimes you want to load up GTA just to cause some chaos but the realism limits you in this regard. Saint's is just a Gary Bucey loving good time that really lets you do what you want to do to civilians in a sandbox game: toss them off buildings.

Alex_09
Alex_09

@mikees1 And what is realistic about waking up in hospital after being shot off a skyscraper? Or crashing into a wall on a motorbike, flying through the air over an entire city block, landing headfirst on the pavement and surviving? One more? How about winning a gunfight against 60 people armed to the teeth with a pistol?

Saints Row 2 for me has always been about the fun factor - a non serious GTA. Its where you can goof around pick up missions quickly, get in and out in 20min play time. I would liked to have seen more custom content. Heck I think with the way APB has gone in the Sims look and feel packs format I wonder if Saints Row 2 could have done the same thing. Overall I am glad Saints Row series is still running, variety is a good thing : )

Saints row did nothing for me, think i only brought it to waste some time before bigger and better games came out (think i traded it in after a week for Rainbow six vegas 2). Cartoon graphics and absolutly no realism what so ever (well in comparrison with GTA4).Utter crap, so il be avoiding this and SR3

jadefury27
jadefury27

for me this replaced the gta series strictly on fun factor. i don't think i've more fun with a sand box title as i did with sr2. CEPTIC AVENGER FTW!

I still like saints row.. till this day.. I had no choice but to get rid of each game after I got all achievements though... but I thought this was like 2 dlc or something but yeah that's an excellent for someone who wants both games

I've been planning on going and getting SR2 again, but this news is even better. The game is just so much fun, if played with an open mind. Kudos.

Why do some people call Saints Row a GTA copycat? GTA had ONE game out of 7 titles with a hip-hop theme that the Saints Row SERIES also has. Other sandbox games haven't been called copies.

Da_Skull_King

i bought saints row 2 and hated it, while it's nice that this is so cheap and you get 2 games, i'm still going to save my money for decent games

@Fajonkel So they can't be compared, but you just did exactly that. "They're in the same genre, but completely different. GTA is more realistic, while Saint's Row 2 it completely over-the-top." That is a comparison.

FabledVeteran

Saints row 2 was immense, i loved it to bits, the Co-op was brilliant and i really can't wait to see what the next installment is going to be like

karloss01

Saints row 2 is what GTA use to be before GTAIV but GTA's multiplayer was better. if Saints row 3 has full map multiplayer along with the choice of arena style maps then it will awesome.

Fajonkel

Nice deal, although could have included the DLC. Saint's Row 2 can't be compared to GTA. That's like Halo to Call of Duty. They're in the same genre, but completely different. GTA is more realistic, while Saint's Row 2 it completely over-the-top. I recommend it for anyone who hasn't tried it yet.

@ gohtingqi1997 -I too thought that when the first one came out but its a very different experience than GTAIV. where gtaiv tries to be very serious and realistic, saints row is all about wacky fun. Check it out cause its a great game. insurance fraud is a blast

@mastachieff Depends on if you spend most of your time in OTS blindfire mode . Then you could loosely consider it a 3rd personshooter but it really is a FPS. Also incidentally you can enter OTS blindfire mode in GTA 4 in both cases (GTA 4 and Rainbow Six Vegas) you must find cover to do so though. Also there's rappelling mode in Rainbow Six Vegas which sees you in the third person. But again these are third person modes you enter in an FPS.

Saints Row isnt my cup of tea, but this a pretty good deal for everyone who has played (and enjoyed) the series. DLC should have been included though.
