Planetwide Games has shipped RYL: Path of the Emperor to retailers. RYL (short for Risk Your Life) is a massively multiplayer online game in which players compete in a skill-based tournament for a cash prize. The game was codeveloped by Taiwan-based Youxiland Digital and South Korea-based GamaSoft.

The tournament, which begins next month, will pit gamers against one another in a player-versus-player competition. Qualifying for the grand prize tournament ends on April 30, 2006. The RYL: Path of the Emperor Final Tournament event will be broadcast live during the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo, with the victor being declared the "Emperor of RYL" and subsequently winning $1 million.

RYL gives all tournament players an equal chance to qualify for the big tournament, as players' scores start out at zero at the beginning of each month. In addition to the PvP tournament, RYL will let players partake in guild-versus-guild combat, buy and sell virtual merchandise, build fortresses, and raise their own dragons.

RYL: Path of the Emperor is rated T for Teen, retails for $49.99, and requires a monthly subscription fee. For more information on RYL, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
