Rockstar New England working on "next version of a famous IP"

Staffer's LinkedIn profile page teases what the studio is currently working on.

Rockstar New England is currently working on the "next version of a famous IP," according to the LinkedIn profile of a current senior graphics engineer at the Boston area studio

No other information about the project is available. The LinkedIn page was discovered by Superannuation at Kotaku.

According to the developer's profile page, Rockstar New England was one of multiple Rockstar studios that assisted Rockstar North with development on Grand Theft Auto V, which shipped last month.

Rockstar Games acquired Mac Doc Software in 2008 and renamed the studio Rockstar New England. Since then, the developer has contributed to projects like Bully, Max Payne 3, and GTAV, but has not created a title of its own.

Rockstar New England currently has nine open positions listed on its careers page.

Not GTA  probably but could be Bully or Red Dead.

Does "new version" mean "remake" or "sequel"? Either way, hoping it's gonna be for PC. GTA ports control like shit on touchscreens...

Now that I think about it, it's probably Midnight Club.  : /

I highly doubt it's Table Tennis. The game didn't sell well and was just more of a showcase of the RAGE engine. As for Manhunt 3, Rockstar stated on two different occasions that developing the first two games it made everyone feel "icky" and was hard to make just because of how much it crossed the line at times. Plus, if they were to make Manhunt 3, it'd have to be as violent as the first two. There would be no way it would make it past ESRB. I would love a Manhunt 3 as well but I just can't see it happening.

My money is on either another Red Dead game or Bully 2. Most likely another Bully, which would totally make excited. I wouldn't mind another Red Dead though either. Hell, I'd love another sequel to any IP from Rockstar.

Of all of them-- I want Red Dead the most of all.  RDR was such a great looking game; I would be more than happy if R* made this their first game for the next-gen.

Whatever it is, it's going to be another Pay2Win scam like GTA Online.

I'm hoping for Bully 2. Loved the first one and it definitely deserves a sequel.

For some reason I have a feeling it won't be Manhunt 3. Wouldn't mind seeing another Manhunt though. My money is on Bully 2. I say this because to me Midnight Club isn't that big of a title compared to other titles in Rockstars lineup. Seeing how GTA, Max Payne, & Red Dead all had releases in the last 3 years, my money is on something we haven't seen in awhile. & that leaves Manhunt or Bully. Unless they come up with a new story for The Warriors but I doubt that.

Please let it be Bully 2!

when i saw the thumbnail, i thought ''modern warfare 4''. stupid thought of course, but that'd be pretty great. the CoD shooting, admittedly still good, combined with an openworld environment. it could be like dead rising, but instead of a mall it's a wartorn area, fighting everywhere and to complete missions you have to be there on time, because the war doesn't wait for you.

it'd probably be too monotone a setting, but i'd like it.

We all know another RDR is coming. So let's hope it's something else we aren't sure about, like this Bully game I have never played but hear good things about. Hell, doesn't matter so much what it is because it's Rockstar and their track record speaks for itself.

@Gruntlock Oh my god, get over it. Nobody even used the damn micro-transactions in GTA Online because it doesn't even benefit you that much.

@MizzDiamondz @blackrunie

Yeah... No shit...
i didn't say they did. that's why i said it was as stupid thought. for your information, it's not impossible to give and IP to another company to create the next game in the series, that's what Treyarch does, to say with the CoD example.

blackrunie

@Duke_51

why does anyone comment? to say what's on their mind about a topic. when i saw the thumbnail, that was my first thought, before the facts caught up. that got me thinking about that ''what if'' and what it would be.

i thought it was pretty rude to assume i didn't know CoD was owned by Infinity Ward/Activision, i responded in kind.

not true. if Activision granted them the use of the IP, they could. Activision can do that, since it's their IP. if they want another studio to work on that, that's their choice. what does Take Two have to do with it? they're their publisher, not their boss.

Duke_51
Duke_51

@blackrunie @MizzDiamondz ?? Why did you even bother with that comment then? You don't have to be rude.

It actually is impossible for them to get that IP. The only way this could happen is if R* wasn't a subsidiary of Take Two.
