Harmonix has published a blog post detailing how importing songs into Rock Band 4 from the previous Rock Band game works. The developer hopes to have a feature update out by December 8 which enables the import of songs from Rock Band 3. Players will be able to export the songs from this game into Rock Band 4 for $14.99, and they must be "verified purchasers".

As a side note, Rock Band 3 will be removed from the Xbox Live Marketplace on October 30, but is still be available to purchase at retailers, although stock will not be replaced. The game is no longer on sale on the PlayStation Store.

Harmonix also notes that "any tracks from the Rock Band 3 disc with authored guitar solos will feature upgraded Freestyle Guitar Solo and Freestyle Vocal features." Rock Band 3 is currently $20 on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and includes 83 tracks.

Rock Band 4 was released on October 6 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game was positively received in GameSpot's review, scoring a seven out of ten. Editor Scott Butterworth praise the fresh gameplay offered by Freestyle Solos, but criticised the game's overall lacklustre tracklist. The game offers backwards compatibility with most instruments, but not all.

Songs purchased as DLC can be transferred within consoles of the same family (Xbox 360 to Xbox One, PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4), although some classic songs are not transferrable due to licensing restrictions. Check out our comprehensive FAQ for more information on compatibility with the game.
