THQ has announced that Red Faction has shipped for the Sony PlayStation 2. The first-person shooter uses the Geo-Mod engine, which lets players deform and even destroy the game's environments. The game was developed by Volition, the company responsible for the PS2 RPG Summoner.

"Red Faction is one of the key titles that will truly drive THQ's next-generation market share in 2001," said Jeff Lapin, vice chairman and chief operating officer for THQ. "As an original THQ brand, Red Faction features all the necessary ingredients for video game success: revolutionary technology, a compelling story line, and plenty of pure action."
