Quantic Dream's PS4 game "very, very different" says Cage

Studio head David Cage says upcoming PlayStation 4 game will be different than Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.

Quantic Dream's upcoming PlayStation 4 game will be "very, very different" than predecessors Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, studio head David Cage said in a new interview.

"It's very, very exciting; something different from Beyond and Heavy Rain," Cage told Game Informer. "Building on the same grounds but in a very, very different way."

"People should expect to be surprised again because this is really what we try to do with each game: not give people what they expect, give them something they want maybe without knowing this is what they want," he added.

Cage said this untitled PS4 project is still in preproduction because Beyond: Two Souls, due out for PlayStation 3 on October 8, "took all our attention and resources." A "small team" is working on the game's technology, concept, and art, Cage said.

Cage previously said that Quantic Dream's PS4 game will retain the studio's emphasis on narrative, and described the new project as "one of the strongest concepts" the company has ever had.

Quantic Dream showed off a PS4 technology demo during the platform's announcement in February. Check out the video below for more.

"Game Over is a failure of the game design." - Said this idiot

Why is this guy making video games?

Fahrenheit = Stupid levels of BS

Heavy Rain = Awful levels of boredom and bizarre plot points belonging to a different story all together

Beyond Two Souls = A girl getting the stuffing kicked out of her...

Then we have old man head, with no body...

Seriously, STOP RUINING THE INDUSTRY WITH YOUR QTE GAMES!

That's great, I got to see an old man's face. Nothing too exciting. Is it just me or does anyone else value game-play over graphics?

I'm glad David Cage does what he does, and I'm equally glad that nobody tries to be like him; gameplay is not really his thing.

david cage is the man!! even though i cant play his games because i got xbox, i still find him a genius who understands the gaming industry much like rockstargames.

Glad to know it's still early in it's pre-development stage. As excited as I am to play their new game, I want them to take their time with it after Beyond is out of the way. This also means it'll give them a couple years to get the hang of programming for the PS4 to take better advantage of it and it will give the PS4 time to iron out any overheating or disc read errors that it's likely to have and come down in price as well. It'd be cool if a used PS4 is around $200 when this comes out so I can go ahead and add it to my console collection.

Quantic Dream, Remedy and Team Bondi should team up.

Personally, I wish that there were more games like this. There's something fantastic about games like Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain and such.

Brand new ip on the way to PS4.

Microsoft, on the other hand, continue milking Halo and Forza with some Gears thrown in every 18 months. LOL. : D

Hey, maybe he's gonna make a game with actually gameplay... maybe. But, wait. That's what the majority of us want, so we know we want it, and he says that we might get something we don't know we want, but as we get it we will know we want it, right... riiiiiiiiiight?

Nevermind.

Activision tells us what we want, Microsoft tells us what we want and now David Cage tells us what we want.

We don't need to think anymore or have an opinion that is different from developers. Ugh...

I don;t get why this guy seems to think he's the only innovator in the industry? He generally comes across as pretentious and patronising

I still say "holy shit" to myself when I watch this tech demo. The future of gaming is looking promising.

lookimg at Heavy Rain supeficially it apears to be a QTE Movie... But its far from it. You have tons of choices, choices that once made can't be fixed. If a character dies, ist dead, and the soty continues. No game over screen! Multiple Endings... Really guys, Heavy Rain is Great, and Game for shure! (typing in iOS 7 is a mess)

Walking dead "interactive movie" = goty. Sony exclusive = "LOL QTE FEST XBOX RLZ"

Telltale walking dead is awesome, quantic dream games are awesome #dealwithit

They are just a different kind of game

Ps: played beyond demo, that game is going to be awesome

Zidaneski

I like QD style QTEs because its not like if you miss it its game over like almost every single other game out there. Almost reminds me of the intro to FFXIII-2 which is very awesome by the way. You get two choices of button prompts so in essence you told Lightning whether she should go melee or do magic. There is no "wrong" choice, one certainly proved more effective but doesn't result in game over even if you don't hit either.

hippiesanta

If Beyond2Souls or Heavy Rain is a multiplats, I bet non sony fans will not complaint about it ..... just like how they never complaint about Telltales" The Walking Dead

Stiler

I am so tired of people saying he makes "movies" and not games, as though Heavy Rain INVENTED QTE's?

QTE's have been in video games even back to the 90's, did none of you hear of a thing called Sega CD? The majority of games that used FMV back in the day used QTE's, from Sewer Shark, to the basketball and boxing games on it.

Also if you complain about Heavy Rain being a movie what about MGS4? It had a LOT longer cutscenes that really felt like you were "watching a movie" rather then playing a game (I loved mgs4 btw).

Can some of you just not enjoy the experience for what it is?

Heavy Rain was much like classic adventure games, emphasis on storylines/interaction and puzzle solving, they weren't known for being "gamey games" with lots of action and explosions and shooting or any such thing.

Maybe David Cage should make his new game more like older adventure games and have it be focused on the classic adventure trope known as "Pixel" hunting where you had to scan your environment for that one tiny object that you had NO clue about and didn't actually "need" at the time but 10 hours down the road you had to combine that one object with this other random object because of a story element that you didn't know about until AFTER you had obtained the items, because as well all know, that is what makes a game a "game," Am I RITE?

@JustArtificial If you don't like it, just don't play it. What are you even doing here? You follow the games you dislike? Man, you are not normal.

Azraelnone

@JustArtificial Summarizing a game before it's even released.  New levels of fail troll.  And yet here I am feeding you... /le sigh.  Oh well, as long as I'm here, read my post below.  But since you sound like you have worst kind of thirteen-year-old-mentality-god-complex, and probably won't, I'll summarize here:
Everyone has a different cup of tea.  There's a very large difference between saying "I don't like these games personally" and "THESE SUCK STOP RUINING IDUSTRY!!11!!1!"
Many of the earliest games were text-based adventure games- the progenitors of modern RPGs.  Basically QTE without the quicktime.

Azraelnone
Azraelnone

@Abysthrian It's a tech demo... You may as well complain about gameplay when watching a movie trailer.

horizonwriter
horizonwriter

@Abysthrian If you're talking about what you can do on an upcoming console then yes, graphics play a huge part in that.  I don't even know how you'd begin to show off gameplay on a tech demo, which is supposed to be about showing how much further a studio can go with graphics engines.  Gameplay shouldn't even be a concern.  Just think about the gameplay of the current gen and theorize that even greater things will be possible. I doubt anyone is going to be trying to take a step back in that area.

andrew_ribbons

@bannermannerHe's a film artist who's in the gaming industry.  That is by far not a bad thing.  The maturity of things like Heavy Rain and Beyond are far devoid of the pewpew 12 year old elements in the games industry...they make me proud to have followed the gaming industry into what it's now becoming:  superlative.

Azraelnone
Azraelnone

@ThePlantain They're just as much games as early text-based adventure games.  Just because they don't fit your definition of 'game' doesn't mean they aren't games.  The artwork and the story telling, especially, is amazing, which is more than can be said of many video games today.
I'm tempted to make a condescending comment about your avatar pic, but as everyone has *their own likes and dislikes *AHEM** I won't.

@Queuingreturns This is coming from someone who has an open mind. I hate to tell you but there are just as many fresh IP's coming to the Xbox One as are the PlayStation 4. I don't know what it is with you people and your sickening obsession with loyalty to one company.

@erMonezza Heavy Rain didn't have any gameplay because it doesn't run on xbox. and that sign on you TV "Unsupported disc" it wan't the game is self.

@RobDev He seems a little arrogant yes, but his games are still good and there are of course more innovative people in this business but he kind of created a new genre in gaming so I think it is legit when people consider him an innovator.

@Stiler Heavy Rain didn't invent QTE but it sure as heck expanded upon the idea. Some people like it, some don't. Don't try to rationalize it. I don't like QTEs myself but this is still the best QTE game I've played.

@Stiler Don't forget those FMV games are now looked upon with disgust as a shameful part of gaming history :).

RobDev
RobDev

@denhoffi @RobDev i'm not saying he's not an innovator but he's so up himself it;s like he thinks no one else is doing anything of any use. I mean who says stuff like "give them something they want maybe without knowing this is what they want". It;s so patronizing.

Stiler
Stiler

@hystavito @Stiler Yes most of them sucked but I still have a soft spot for some FMV games.

Games like Gabriel Knight 2, Tex Murphy, etc showed that you could make "good" games with FMV, and the fmv still retains a bit of charm in this day and age.
