As it's done in the past with some system updates, Sony will hold a beta test for the next PlayStation 4 update, the company has announced. You can sign up for the beta test here.

There are no details just yet on what the PS4 3.5 update will include, but the fact that Sony is going to test it with consumers before launch suggests it could be large and significant.

The beta will begin in early March, Sony said in a post on the PlayStation Blog. Those accepted will receive an email that explains how they can download the new system software.

Since it's pre-release software, there may be some bugs and other issues. Thankfully, then, players accepted into the PS4 beta can roll back to the previous version whenever they want.

Finally, Sony encouraged people accepted into the beta to join the PlayStation Forums, where they can discuss the new changes. Sony said it will monitor feedback posted there, but explained that it cannot guarantee that community-suggested ideas make it into the final version of the update.

Sony is not the only platform-holder to beta-test new system updates. Microsoft does the same for Xbox One through its Preview Program system.
