[UPDATE] A message on the PlayStation Blog from Bloodborne producer Masaaki Yamagiwa reveals that the game has actually sold through more than one million copies worldwide so far.

"We are amazed and very grateful for the way in which the community has embraced Bloodborne," he said. "As you may have seen, we've just announced that Bloodborne has now sold through over one million copies worldwide. Thank you to everyone who has supported the project!"

The original story is below.

From Software's latest role-playing game, the PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne, has shipped 1 million copies worldwide since its release at the end of March. Sony announced the sales figured today today, which counts copies shipped as of April 5, according to a report from Gematsu.

The 1 million units shipped includes copies sold on disc as well as digital units sold through the PlayStation Store. There's also a new statement from SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida.

“Bloodborne was a new challenge for us, and our goal was to create a title that took full advantage of the power of PS4," Yoshida said. “I am thrilled that so many users have been enjoying the extremely rich and detailed world, beautiful melancholic atmosphere, and palpable tension of Bloodborne."

In March, Bloodborne even outsold Battlefield Hardline on the PlayStation Store, despite being released a week later and going up against an established franchise.

From Software also created Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. For more on Bloodborne, check out GameSpot's review and what other critics are saying.
