PS4 coming to India on January 6

System will be available in new region next month for around $640.

The PlayStation 4 is coming to India on January 6, Sony has announced. The system will be available in the region for 39,990 Rupees, or around $640.

When the PS4 launches in India, Sony's new console will be available in 49 countries around the world, compared to 13 for the Xbox One.

"We have received an overwhelming response for PlayStation 4 globally and are hoping to replicate this success in India too," Sony India managing director Kenichiro Hibi said.

The PS4 has sold 2.1 million copies around the world since launch on November 15, neck-and-neck with the Xbox One. Sony expects to sell 3 million consoles globally by the end of 2013--now just 11 days away.

On a positive note, at least a news article in GameSpot covered India. That's good enough for me !!!

Hilarious pricing. A GPU for half the cost gives better graphics, actually runs at 1080p and at 60fps.

Price is too much... In india people would prefer a fine gfx card along with i5 " 40 k INR anyday

I don't think it will sell well considering majority of Indians play on PC, and the price's too steep.

Let me jump into my fake internet American persona:

India? lulz wtf, they might aswell just try and market it to homeless people here in the states haha. what a fucking fail.

Ok, now that I got that out time to jump into my normal American persona:

Damn, 640 bucks is a heck of a lot of money. 240 bucks more. . .nhmnhm, them taxes are disgusting.

I remember talking to Bob ( we all know that's not really his name lol) over the Microsoft activation service, and I was just talking to the guy to pass the time lol, he said he only made like 350 Rupee's working there. At the time I didn't know how much that was but it turned out to be like 5 bucks or something, I should of asked him if that was per hour. Those are some piss poor wages. Microsoft is so freaken cheap man. . .that's why I hate that company.

Wow they charge extra $200 bucks for people in India

Not nice

And Xbox One release is November 2014 for Asia territory so I pretty sure PS4 will still be the first choice in that region for some time despite this ridiculous price

Guess Spamspot forgot to mention a 68% vita sale increase since PS4 launch.

Being an avid gamer and an Indian, I am not too excited about it, cause in the end only a few rich peoples would be able to afford it, plus the fact that an average person in India has to spend ridiculous amount of money to get the basic necessities like foot, water, electricity, accommodation, healthcare etc, one can barely think of video gaming for that matter.

I use a PC for gaming and rely mostly on steam ad GOG discounts during summer and black fridays etc for cheap deals, cause otherwise $60 games are quite hard to afford. Its not that I am against console gaming or anything but PC gaming makes much more sense here.

Good news as well as bad news too.
Good news is the release date of this console finally confirmed for India.
The bad news is PC is the major gaming platform in India.

PS4 coming to the guy who sits in the bathroom and collects change at sporting events on January 6. System will be available at a discount price for the poor guy starting next month.

India? it isnt even out in the USa yet....Sony seems like they put 2 systems on the market people bought them all and theyre screaming "Sold out" its nonsense how Sony has handled the shortage on a whole.

renerak

At that price you can build a computer that easily outpowers the ps4. I can build a custom CPU for 30k, which kills your damn console.

I wonder how many consoles they are going to send India? 100 maybe?

@grove67  The price of the PS4 is ridiculous.

Though still it will sale a lot as India have huge amount of gamers and rich people.

Even the upper middle class people can easily get those. Some of the lower middle class too.

But the thing is why will anyone who belongs to lower middle class will like to buy it as they can easily get a descent gaming PC with cheap games in this range, they can enjoy better visual, more FPS,mod support, more control option, more resolution, and audio option.Just for some timed and full exclusives?

I personally don't think ill buy it.

The one of the major advantage or pros of console is that it is cheap.

Even the pricing of the games is bad.

And Microsoft told that they will increase first party support to Microsoft windows gaming. So expect some more 3rd party games for PC.

I think future of gaming platform in India is PC.

People who buy real games now a lot lot more than previous. It changes within only 5 years

Calm yourself man, people are burning our flags because of our military presence in regions and I think this idiot got India mixed up with one of your neighboring countries.

renerak

@Vinnvn @renerak Let see, I will go for the same and greater specs for PS4.

AMD 7870 2GB =16800 Rs (pc version and ps4 portable version has a lot of difference in performance, this is faster by quite a bit)

ASUS m5A78L motherboard =3550 Rs

AMD FX 8320 8 core processor= 9999 Rs

EVM 4GB RAM x 2 - 2099 + 2099 = 4200 Rs

500 watt power supply = 2000 Rs

Case = 1500 Rs

Hardisk 160 gb(should be enough) = 1500 Rs

Ok, now that should bring the total to 37549 Rs

Now, all the stuff here are not required and you can save by going for cheaper motherboard, powersupply, processor, and even a 7850 1 gb which will bring down the cost a lot. And I have not added the price of monitor and peripherals but you should know that they are pathetically cheap and PS4 doesnt come with a TV and speakers/headphones.

Oh and a controller for 300 Rs or 500 Rs, or an Xbox 360 one for 1000 something Rupees.

And all prices are taken from Flipkart, the online megastore.

@Vinnvn @renerak Wow, I forgot about that, windows 8 64 bit =6350 Rs, I guess now you have to cut cost from graphic card or PSU, or processor and you should be able to maintain the price.

Haha, guess you got me there. But still should be managable. Although must admit, piracy will be easier.

@renerak

What is the cost of windows 7 and 8 in india?
